Since early morning, despite the heavy rain, the working groups of Division 968 have been present in the wards of Vi Da, Thuan Hoa, Phu Xuan... the areas that were deeply flooded. Despite the muddy roads and freezing cold water, officers and soldiers still steadfastly held their ground, waded through mud, cleared sewers, collected garbage, cleaned tables and chairs, and rearranged equipment at schools and medical centers... All with a spirit of urgency and responsibility, "wherever the water recedes, we clean up".

Officers and soldiers of Division 968 waded through water to help local schools clean up.

Corporal Hoang Dinh Quan, a soldier of Company 2, Battalion 4, Regiment 19, shared: “As soon as we received the order, we set off immediately. We determined the spirit of 'the city is still flooded, the people are still in trouble, the soldiers have not rested'. Even though we had to wade through water for many hours, our hands and feet were blistered from the water, but seeing the people excited, seeing the schools and houses gradually becoming clean again, everyone felt happy, forgetting all the fatigue.”

At Thuy Van Primary School (Vi Da Ward), water was still flooding the campus, but officers and soldiers of Division 968 were present in time to coordinate with teachers to clean and rearrange the classrooms. They did not hesitate to do anything from scrubbing the toilets, carrying water to clean the walls, to cleaning mud and garbage. The musty smell was strong, but they still worked diligently, cleaning up as they went.

Teacher Vo Thi Thuy Dung, Principal of Thuy Van Primary School, emotionally said: “The prolonged heavy rain caused the school to be flooded three times, causing heavy damage to the facilities. Every time the water receded, we received help from the armed forces of Military Region 4. This time, even though the water had not completely receded, officers and soldiers of Division 968 proactively came to support. They worked selflessly, not afraid of difficulties or hardships. Thanks to the army, the school will soon be stable to welcome students back.”

Not only supporting schools, Division 968 also deployed many working groups to local medical centers, coordinating disinfection, cleaning equipment, ensuring environmental sanitation to serve medical examination and treatment for people. At Vi Da Ward Medical Station, officers and soldiers had to wade through a nearly one meter deep flood, carrying necessary tools and materials to help the medical station quickly stabilize operations.

At Tay Loc market (Phu Xuan ward), when the soldiers arrived, all the traders were excited. Ms. Le Thi My Chau, a long-time trader, shared: "This year's flood was unprecedentedly large, all goods were damaged, garbage was piled up, and a foul smell arose. Fortunately, the soldiers arrived in time to help clean up. Thanks to them, the market quickly became clean again, and the people are very grateful."

Despite the rain, the officers and soldiers still wore raincoats and worked tirelessly. Thanks to the tight and scientific organization, in just one afternoon, the soldiers of Division 968 coordinated with the local forces to clean up a huge amount of garbage, returning the open space to the traders.

Help people clean up at Tay Loc market (Phu Xuan ward).

Directly following the unit's command area to help people from the very beginning, Lieutenant Colonel Chu Thanh Minh, Deputy Regiment Commander, Chief of Staff of Regiment 19, Division 968 said: "Immediately after receiving orders from superiors, the unit quickly deployed a mobility plan to deeply flooded areas of Hue city.

We thoroughly grasp the spirit of "sticking to the people, sticking to the area", closely coordinating with local authorities and local forces, organizing to help people in a practical and effective way. The key task is to clear mud, dredge sewers, clean schools, medical centers and residential areas to soon stabilize people's lives. Everything is carried out urgently, scientifically, in accordance with the actual situation of each area. During the implementation process, the unit always ensures the safety of the troops, all activities are carried out according to plan, with close command and inspection."

In the midst of hardship, the qualities of “Uncle Ho’s soldiers” shine even brighter. Hands blackened by mud and cracked feet after many days of wading in floodwaters are vivid evidence of the spirit of “serving the people, forgetting oneself for the people” of the heroic soldiers of the Vietnam People’s Army.
