Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his pleasure to meet again with Minister-Premier Jan Jambon, who is leading a delegation of 30 large Belgian enterprises to visit Vietnam on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership on Agriculture; affirming that Vietnam always attaches importance to and advocates strengthening comprehensive cooperation with Belgium, as well as with the Belgian Regions and communities.
Minister-President of Flanders Jan Jambon expressed his pleasure in visiting Vietnam for the first time, thanked Minister Bui Thanh Son for receiving the delegation; highly appreciated Vietnam's position and role in the region and the world as well as Vietnam's efforts in improving the investment and business environment and Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements after the Covid-19 pandemic.
Minister Jan Jambon affirmed that Flanders always considers Vietnam a priority partner in the region, proposing many areas where the two sides can cooperate in the coming time, including areas of Flanders' strengths and with representatives participating in this delegation such as: logistics services, transportation, agriculture, training, etc.
The two sides were pleased to note that in recent times, delegation exchanges and bilateral contacts have been effectively maintained not only at the federal level but also at the regional and community levels; highly appreciated the cooperation between Vietnam and Belgium in general and Vietnam and Flanders in particular, especially investment projects in areas such as industrial parks, seaports, renewable energy, agriculture, etc.

Minister Bui Thanh Son assessed that economic cooperation is an important pillar in the Vietnam - Belgium relationship, thanked the Flanders Parliament for promptly ratifying the Vietnam - EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA); and asked Flanders to promote the Belgian Federal Parliament to soon approve the EVIPA.
The Minister hopes that Belgium will urge the European Commission (EC) to soon remove the IUU “yellow card” for Vietnamese seafood products; and hopes that the Flanders region will promote cooperation with Vietnam in areas such as electronic chip production, renewable energy, digital transformation, smart agriculture, etc.
On this occasion, Minister Bui Thanh Son proposed that the Flanders region strengthen cooperation with the Mekong River Commission in developing, managing and sustainably and effectively using the Mekong River's water resources.
Minister-President Jan Jambon supports Vietnam in strengthening comprehensive relations with the EU, affirming to promote the Federal Parliament to ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement.
The Minister-President of Flanders also agreed that Flanders will continue to share experiences and support the Mekong River Commission in the face of current challenges.
