The film "Red Rain," produced by the People's Army Film Studio, directed by Meritorious Artist Dang Thai Huyen, and written by author Chu Lai, is set against the historical backdrop of the 81-day and 81-night battle at Quang Tri Citadel in 1972. The film revolves around Squad 1 – a unit composed entirely of young soldiers, mostly students, with high enthusiasm and noble ideals. The main character is Cuong, a student at the Hanoi Conservatory of Music who gave up his opportunity to study abroad to enlist in the army.

The film portrays the heroic and tenacious struggle of young soldiers on this fierce battlefield, as they must hold their ground and defend the ancient citadel against enemy attacks. Alongside the battle scenes, the film also intertwines stories of camaraderie, love, and rare moments of peace amidst the bombs and bullets.
