Chicken pho broth is usually lighter and clearer than beef pho broth. Other ingredients used to make this dish include ginger, fish sauce, shallots, green onions, cilantro, lime leaves, and rice noodles.

Many believe that this pho dish originated around the 1930s, when the supply of beef in northern Vietnam was limited.

Ranked at number 23, glutinous rice balls in sweet soup (chè trôi nước) impress diners with the sweet, fragrant flavor of the soup made with palm sugar and ginger. Adding to the dish are the soft, chewy rice balls filled with smooth mung bean paste.
