Vietnam baseball team lost to Philippines 1-21

On the morning of December 9, the Vietnamese baseball team suffered a heavy 1-21 loss to the Philippines in the 5th match and officially lost the right to compete for medals at the 33rd SEA Games.

The Philippines baseball team is the strongest in the region, having won the most recent SEA Games (2019). It is easy to understand that the opponent quickly dominated from the start. In particular, the 7th round witnessed an explosion when this team scored 9 points. Meanwhile, Vietnam only got 1 point in the 2nd round, the rest of the time they were completely outclassed in both attack and defense.

The result extended the Philippines' winning streak to four matches and solidified their position at the top of the group, while Vietnam only had one victory against Malaysia (5-2), losing to Thailand (0-16), Laos (0-16), Singapore (12-16) and the Philippines (1-21). The defeat means that coach Park Hyo Chul's team cannot make it into the top four, the condition to compete for the bronze medal. Vietnam has its final match against Indonesia on December 10.

Two defeats with the same score of 0-16 against Laos and Thailand, along with a heavy loss of 1-21 to the Philippines, reflect the current position of Vietnamese baseball in the region. With a young foundation, Vietnamese baseball is in the process of accumulating experience and building its force to aim for international tournaments in the future.

Today is not good, but tomorrow can be better. With a schedule of 6 consecutive matches in 6 days, the team will gradually improve with each match."

SEA Games 33 has 7 teams participating in baseball, competing in a round robin to select two teams for the final and two teams for third place.
