In their opening match at the 33rd SEA Games, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team (ranked 28th in the world ) was considered the clear favorite against Myanmar. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team entered the tournament with great confidence after winning the SEA V.League 2025 - Stage 2 championship.
According to the draw results, Vietnam is in Group B along with Myanmar, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Their first opponent is Myanmar – a team that has never been highly regarded. Even basic information about their squad and preparation remains a mystery.
Conversely, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team possesses a generation of talented athletes who are currently in good form. Tran Thi Thanh Thuy has extensive experience playing abroad, Tran Thi Bich Thuy has made significant progress after playing in South Korea and Japan, along with other quality players such as Lam Oanh, Le Thanh Thuy, and Vi Thi Nhu Quynh…
With a well-balanced squad and consistent form, victory is almost within Vietnam's grasp. This is even an opportunity for coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet to experiment with the lineup and give reserve players a chance to gain experience.
Nevertheless, sports always hold surprises. But looking at the journey over the past year – where Thanh Thúy and her teammates have defeated many stronger opponents than Myanmar, such as Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, and even Thailand – there is reason to believe that Vietnam will not "stumble" in the opening match.
A victory in the opening match would certainly be a huge morale boost, helping the whole team aim for further goals at the SEA Games 33.
