A dolphin – a wild animal weighing 100kg – unexpectedly appeared in the famous waters of Binh Dinh province.

Around 10 am on July 22nd, dozens of tourists visiting Ky Co beach resort in Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh province, on the Khanh An speedboat spotted a dolphin swimming. Many other beachgoers also saw the dolphin.

Locals recently spotted and filmed dolphins swimming in the waters off this commune.

According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Dao of the Khanh An tourist canoe team, at around 10 am this morning, as his tourist canoe was heading towards the shore, they spotted a dolphin in the sea near the beach of Ky Co tourist area (Nhon Ly commune).

Immediately, Mr. Dao and the tourists used their phones to record the moment the dolphins were playing on the water's surface, to share on social media.

Mr. Dao estimated the dolphin to be about 1.2 - 1.8 meters long and weigh over 100 kg. He also said that every year, from this time until September - October, dolphins often appear in the waters off Nhon Ly.

"There was a school of about 14-15 dolphins, last year we saw two schools. Every year, the dolphins usually move about 200-300 meters from the shore, but this time we saw them close to the shore, only about 10 meters away. This dolphin must have gotten lost," Mr. Dao said.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Danh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nhon Ly commune, whales and dolphins naturally swim in the nearshore area to feed for a short period of time before leaving.

In maritime activities, local authorities consistently integrate awareness campaigns on the conservation of sea turtles, whales, and dolphins with boat owners and tourism service businesses. As a result, both locals and boat owners are conscious of protecting the marine environment and maintaining distance when these marine animals appear.

Recently, whales, dolphins, and sea turtles have been frequently seen in the waters off Binh Dinh province. Most recently, a whale approximately 8 meters long has been repeatedly spotted in the waters off Hoai Hai commune (Hoai Nhon town) hunting for prey.
