Localities along Vu Gia and Thu Bon rivers respond to rising floods

DNO - On the night of November 16 and morning of November 17, floods on Vu Gia and Thu Bon rivers continued to rise rapidly, and localities proactively deployed response plans.

On the evening of November 16, the floodwaters of Vu Gia River rose to near alert level 2, inundating Ba Khe 2 and Ba Khe 3 bridges on DT609 (in Thuong Duc and Ha Nha communes) and Ngoai Thuong bridge on Huynh Ngoc Hue street (Dai Loc commune). These localities have deployed barriers and checkpoints to prevent traffic.

Communes along the Vu Gia and Thu Bon rivers such as Thuong Duc, Ha Nha, Dai Loc, Phu Thuan, and Vu Gia have announced that students will be off school on November 17 to ensure safety.

Mr. Le Phan Minh, Chairman of Vu Gia Commune People's Committee, said that the floodwaters of Vu Gia River separated Khuong My village from the commune center. The locality evacuated households in low-lying areas, which were at risk of landslides, to move to households with high houses and safe locations.

In Phu Thuan commune, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said that many rural traffic routes were flooded on the Vu Gia and Thu Bon rivers.

In Dai Loc commune, the flood on Vu Gia river in Ai Nghia at 7am on November 17 was 8.95m (0.05m below alarm level 3), flooding residential areas along the embankment. Huynh Ngoc Hue street from the east of Ngoai Thuong bridge to Ai Nghia market, to Ai Nghia intersection (Nguyen Tat Thanh - Huynh Ngoc Hue street) was blocked.

Currently, the Vu Gia river water level has risen above alert level 3, causing many other areas in Dai Loc commune to be isolated.

At 9:00 a.m. on November 17, the Central Hydrometeorological Station reported that floods on rivers are forecast to continue to rise in the next 12 hours. Accordingly, the Vu Gia River rose to level above alert 3; the Thu Bon River rose to level above alert 2; the Han River and Tam Ky River rose to level 1 - alert 2.

In the next 12 - 24 hours, floods on rivers will fluctuate at alert level 1 to above alert level 2, while on Thu Bon River, they will fluctuate at below alert level 3.

Warning: From November 17 to 20, there is a possibility of a flood on the Han River and Tam Ky River. The flood peak on the Han River and Tam Ky River is at alert level 2 to above alert level 2. The flood situation on the rivers is likely to last for many days.

High risk of flooding in low-lying areas along rivers; flooding in urban areas; flash floods and landslides on steep slopes in mountainous areas of Da Nang city.
