Activities to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hoi An Ancient Town becoming a World Cultural Heritage

VHO - To mark the important milestone of 25 years since Hoi An Ancient Town was recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage (December 4, 1999 - December 4, 2024), Hoi An City People's Committee will organize many activities to celebrate this event.

This is also a series of events associated with the celebration of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23), 7 years of the art of Bài Chòi in Central Vietnam being recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity (December 7, 2017 - 2024), 15 years of Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An being recognized as a World Biosphere Reserve and Hoi An joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

Specifically, entrance fees to Hoi An Ancient Town will be waived for tourists on December 4th.

With the general theme "25 years - Preserving and sustainably promoting the values ​​of the World Cultural Heritage of Hoi An Ancient Town", activities are held at many times of the year, peaking from November 23 to December 4, the main theme of the activity will be "Cultural heritage in our hearts and hands".

The key activities will be organized as follows: Discussion on the topic "Imprints on the journey of preserving and promoting the cultural heritage values ​​of Hoi An Ancient Town" (December 3).

Through the annual meeting between city leaders and organizations and individuals involved in the management, preservation, and promotion of the World Heritage site of Hoi An Ancient Town, along with discussions and exchanges of information about the milestones in the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of Hoi An Ancient Town over the past time.

The seminar will focus on the issues of thinking and measures to preserve cultural heritage from the early difficult days of the Party Committee, government and people of Hoi An; memorable stories and events in the early days of recognition as a world cultural heritage; experiences in heritage conservation and promotion; major orientations for conservation and promotion of heritage values ​​in the coming time...

On December 4th, the city held a parade to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hoi An Ancient Town being recognized as a World Heritage Site.

Publishing the collection of Research Information on 25 years of heritage conservation. Including a collection of research articles highlighting the process and achievements of 25 years of preserving the World Heritage Site of Hoi An Ancient Town.

Displaying publications about Hoi An and the activity “Learning about Monuments through books” at Thanh Hoa-Hoi An Library. Through the displayed books and activities, children in Hoi An can explore and learn about the monuments in the Old Quarter.

The exhibition is themed "Hoi An through the eyes of a window" by artist Bao Ly.

At the Hoi An Museum, there will be an exhibition themed "Hoi An through the Eyes of Doors," showcasing images of Hoi An through the eyes of doorways by artist Bao Ly, featuring a collection of 15 pairs of door eyes depicting historical relics in the ancient town; and an exhibition of Hoi An Heritage through Paintings, displaying a collection of photographs of Hoi An donated by artist Luu Cong Nhan to introduce to the public.

Photo exhibition in person at Hoi An communal house and online on the website of Hoi An Cultural Heritage Management and Conservation Center to introduce the value of Hoi An's cultural heritage and 25 years of achievements in conservation and promotion.

Annual cross-country race "For world cultural heritage - Hoi An 2024"

Cultural and sports activities are organized on this occasion such as: The annual cross-country race "For World Cultural Heritage - Hoi An 2024" for schools, local people and tourists living, working and staying in Hoi An.

On this occasion, the city also inaugurated and announced many new cultural-tourism products and destinations such as: Ceremony to announce the construction of a civilized commercial street on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street and Tran Phu Street; Opening of the Local Products Museum.
