Sense of time through drawings of origins

Taking "origin" as the central theme, the exhibition "Color of Time" is an artistic journey where each artist chooses a separate flow to return to their own self, to dialogue with time and their own memories. Each work is a delicate slice of emotion, reflecting the artist's perspective through an interesting visual language.

Opening on the evening of November 10, the exhibition "Color of Time" is a reunion of four talented artists: Nguyen Minh Chinh, Nguyen Minh Hai, Ha Huy Hiep and Nguyen Luong Huyen.

Borrowing the poetic idea of ​​Doan Phu Tu: "The color of time is not green / The color of time is purple / The scent of time is not strong / The scent of time is light" , in this exhibition, the authors bring a variety of colors about time. They use paintings to express their contemplations about life and their views on art.

For artist Nguyen Minh Hai, time is depicted through each state of the lotus. The lotus is considered a symbol of purity, nobility, and contains a strong vitality. Through each stroke, the image of the lotus appears both familiar and surreal, reminding of the purity of the soul and spiritual origin of the Vietnamese people.

Having left many impressions in the hearts of art lovers through his solo exhibition "Memory Land: The Intact Return of Nguyen Minh Hai", in this group exhibition "Color of Time", he brings a series of emotional lotus paintings, contributing a unique color of time.

"I borrowed the life cycle of the lotus to imply reincarnation. In the same painting, viewers can see the image of a lotus bud opening, a lotus flower blooming and the lotus pod remaining after the flower has withered. It seems like the entire life of a lotus is encapsulated in the eye," Nguyen Minh Hai confided.

Still pursuing the familiar theme - Hanoi landscape, however, each work introduced by Nguyen Luong Huyen this time brings a new emotion. Using lacquer to paint, he turns the nuances of time into a vivid artistic material. Huyen's paintings not only bring a visual expression but also a sedimentation of emotions, containing deep contemplations about the origin.

Using oil paint, Ha Huy Hiep emphasizes the spiritual values ​​in human life in each work. The visual language and folk themes are expressed specifically and clearly. Through each layer of color and composition, viewers can feel his respect for traditional cultural values. For Hiep, that is a solid foundation for the development of each individual and community.

Pursuing the same oil painting material, Nguyen Minh Chinh’s paintings bring a sense of freedom and liberty. He paints the sky and earth, the silver sea, and the mountains. He paints winding terraced fields mingling in the poetic mist.

Walking around the exhibition, Nguyen Minh Chinh paused for a long time in front of the work "Dagarar Dawn". He said that at the end of 2023, he had the opportunity to visit India.

"Standing before the vast landscape of Dagarar, watching the fishermen catching fish, I suddenly remembered the familiar, simple images in Vietnamese fishing villages. Both are scenes of life at sea, but the difference in time and space has given me unforgettable impressions. And 'Dagarar Dawn' was born from that", said artist Nguyen Minh Chinh.

From mountains and rivers to clouds and sky, each painting reminds us of our origins. It seems that both the color and the scent of time in Nguyen Minh Chinh’s works remain intact despite the ups and downs. In his paintings, space is not only recreated with color but also imbued with the scent of time, evoking a vague, unforgettable feeling in the viewer’s mind.

Nguyen Minh Hai confided: "In this collaboration, each artist brought a unique perspective on time. I used lotus to talk about the cycle of reincarnation of a life. Time in Nguyen Minh Chinh's paintings seems to freeze at the moment he captured it. With Ha Huy Hiep, it is folk inspiration recreated through the prism of painting. Meanwhile, Nguyen Luong Huyen brings depth of space and time with the typical architecture of Hanoi."

The exhibition "Color of Time" will last until November 19, on the 2nd floor, at the Exhibition House 16 Ngo Quyen (Hanoi).
