At 7:40 a.m. on September 16, three consecutive buses stopped at the dormitory station B - Ho Chi Minh City National University, but only a few lucky students who were quick enough could get on the bus because there were too many passengers.

If students want to get to class on time, they have to wait for the bus from 5 o'clock in the morning.

Hoang Loc, a new student at the University of Natural Sciences - VNU-HCM, sighed and said: "Since I started school, out of 5 sessions, I had to take a motorbike taxi at the last minute for 4 of them, even though I had been waiting at the station for an hour beforehand."
Loc confided that studying far from home is quite expensive, so he tries to wake up early to go to school by bus to save money. Each day, Loc only spends about 6,000 VND for both ways. If he takes a motorbike taxi, during rush hour, each trip can cost up to 30,000 VND.
"The distance from the dormitory to school is about 3km but it takes me too much time to travel and wait. If this situation continues, it will definitely affect my studies" - Loc said sadly.

At 7:30 a.m., at the bus station of dormitory area B, there were still many students who could not go to school.

Many students worry about being late for class.

Hoang Loc, a new student at the University of Natural Sciences - VNU-HCM, decided to book a motorbike taxi to "put out the fire", in the afternoon Loc will take the bus back to the dormitory
Yen Thoa, a second-year student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, said that last year it only took about 10-15 minutes to wait for the bus, but this year it took more than an hour but there was still no bus. If students want to catch a bus and go to school on time, they have to wait at the bus stop from 5am.
"I go to school at 7 o'clock, it's 7:30 now. I'll try to wait until 8 o'clock, if there's no bus then I'll skip school, I have no other choice" - Thoa said thoughtfully.
The female student said the distance from the dormitory to school is about 4km, if walking it will take about 1 hour, not to mention going to class will be very tiring, difficult to concentrate. If taking a technology motorbike taxi, there is not enough money because the cost is too high. Thoa thought of bringing her motorbike from the countryside to Ho Chi Minh City, but the surrounding parking lots all said they were full and would not accept new motorbikes. The difficult situation puts a lot of pressure on the female student in her studies.
"It's the beginning of the school year so there are no tests or exams yet, so the teachers understand and should extend the roll call time to 8 o'clock or after recess. However, in the long run, it will be very difficult for us. If we are late on the exam day, I will definitely fail the subject" - Thoa worried.

Yen Thoa said that if she spends too much, she won't have enough money for living expenses for the whole month. So, instead of taking a motorbike taxi to class, Thoa is forced to report absent.

During rush hour, have to book 2-3 times to get a motorbike taxi

"University village" students struggle to go to school by bus
Previously, from August 1, bus route 33 (An Suong bus station - HCM National University) shortened its route, ending at dormitory area A instead of dormitory area B as before. Therefore, the number of students going to bus number 53 and 99 increased, leading to overload during rush hour.
It is known that the dormitory of Ho Chi Minh City National University is the largest "university village" in the country. Current room rates range from 230,000 - 1.9 million VND/month.
The representative of the Dormitory Management Center said that Area B alone has more than 25,000 students from many universities such as: Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, International, Economics - Law, Ho Chi Minh City Technical Pedagogy, Ho Chi Minh City Technology, Ho Chi Minh City Agriculture and Forestry... The main means of transportation for students in the dormitory is the bus.

Many students were absent from school because they could not catch the bus to school.
For schools located in urban areas, students often take the bus from area B to area A, then walk about 1-1.5 km. Meanwhile, students of the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Ho Chi Minh City, and Economics and Law can go straight from dormitory area B to school by bus number 33.
