On the afternoon of October 30, Mr. Nguyen Khac Viet, Executive Director of the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway project, informed that by about 4:30 p.m., the flooded area of the expressway had been completely repaired, and traffic had returned to normal in both directions.

Previously, after many hours of effort, at about 3:00 p.m. the same day, the flooded highway area was cleared one way, and vehicles traveling in the South - North direction were able to circulate again.

For the flooded section in the opposite direction, authorities are urgently clearing the water to soon restore two-way traffic.

Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet highway section is deeply flooded

Previously, at around 9:00 a.m. the same day, the section Km233+250 – Km233+500 on the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway was flooded to an average depth of 0.5 m. Water drained slowly because the drainage system between the expressway and the local drainage canal was not synchronized; the downstream drainage culvert had a small cross-section, causing water to rise back up. In addition, the reservoirs in the flood discharge area increased the amount of water, causing serious local flooding.

Immediately after the incident, Road Management Area IV directed the maintenance unit to mobilize vehicles and human resources to fix the landslide, dredge the drainage system, and ensure temporary traffic. Traffic police coordinated to regulate traffic and temporarily close the road at the intersections of Ma Lam (Km208+700) and Phan Thiet (Km234+617).

Water overflowed onto the highway, causing flooding and posing a risk of landslides.

On the same day, the Road Management Office IV.1 (Vietnam Road Administration) said that at Km215+200 - Km215+700 on the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway, many local landslides appeared, sand and soil filled the drainage system and occupied about half of the road surface of lane 2. The cause was determined to be that the positive slope had not been reinforced, there was no top drainage ditch, while outside the expressway fence there was a stagnant pond due to people renovating the terrain, causing rainwater to accumulate on the road surface.
