Not competing on price or frequency, Sun PhuQuoc Airways - the airline officially launched by Sun Group on October 15, chose a different direction: linking aviation development with destination development.
For Mr. Nguyen Manh Quan - General Director of Sun PhuQuoc Airways, aviation is not only a business, but also a part of the bigger picture of sustainable tourism development. In the discussion, he shared his vision, strategy and journey to bring the "wings of the sun" from the Pearl Island to the world .
First of all, congratulations on the successful launch of Sun PhuQuoc Airways – the “final piece” in the tourism – resort – aviation ecosystem that Sun Group has cherished for many years.
The aviation market has seen a few new names in recent years. And so the competition in the sky is now quite fierce. So what direction will Sun PhuQuoc Airways choose to affirm its own identity and position?
It can be seen that in recent years, the Vietnamese aviation market has maintained a high growth rate, not only in the region but also globally. The government also aims to promote stronger growth in the coming period, and that is clearly shown in the prospects of the aviation industry - a sector considered the "engine" for economic and tourism development.

Overall, this is an open, dynamic and rapidly growing market. Although there are only a few large domestic airlines, there are more than 30 international airlines operating flights to Vietnam, creating a naturally competitive, diverse and attractive environment. Therefore, the emergence of a new airline is not to “join the existing race”, but to create more choices, service capacity and new value for passengers.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways does not follow the beaten path of competing on price or frequency, but aims for a different model - linking aviation development with destination development. We do not compete directly with other airlines, but compete on the attractiveness of the destination. If Bali, Phuket or Jeju have their own airlines to contribute to promoting local tourism, then Phu Quoc - with its natural potential, location and current infrastructure - is completely worthy of becoming an international destination.
Our goal is to provide tourists with easier access to the Pearl Island, while spreading the image of Vietnam to the world. Each flight of Sun PhuQuoc Airways is an invitation – to Vietnam, to Phu Quoc, to the lands that are rising on the global tourism map.
Sir, with its own direction and different values, what service standards will the SPA operate according to – 3-star, 4-star or aiming for international 5-star standards?
With Sun PhuQuoc Airways, we choose the full-service path – providing a comprehensive and complete service. In fact, in the full-service model, there is no specific classification of 3 stars, 4 stars or 5 stars like in hotels. However, our orientation is towards international 5-star standards, in terms of products, services and customer experience.

Of course, it is a long journey, it is not possible to declare "5 stars" from the beginning, but needs a methodical development roadmap, gradually meeting all international criteria on quality, safety, comfort and service.
And with that positioning, will Sun PhuQuoc Airways' price be set in the high-end segment or which segment, to ensure both quality and accessibility to all people and tourists as the airline has declared?
Ticket prices are always adjusted flexibly according to market supply and demand, seasonality and aircraft supply. Therefore, when it comes to “price segmentation”, the important thing is not expensive or cheap, but the value and experience that passengers receive.
With Sun PhuQuoc Airways, we do not define our position by price, but by mission. The airline’s goal is to connect and elevate destinations – especially Phu Quoc – so that more people can easily access them, whether domestic or international tourists. Therefore, our pricing policy is built on the principle of reasonableness, balancing high-quality service and accessibility for passengers. Sun PhuQuoc Airways is not an expensive airline, but a valuable airline – where customers feel the difference in experience, service and journey, commensurate with the standards of a 5-star airline with the spirit of Vietnam.

Sun PhuQuoc Airways has a clear positioning of its mission and service segment, so surely the airline has a specific roadmap for receiving and operating its fleet in the near future. Can you share more about this plan?
First of all, it is necessary to look at the general situation of the aircraft manufacturing industry in the world today. Both major manufacturers, Boeing and Airbus, are under great pressure in terms of supply chains and delivery schedules. According to the current plan, new orders from any airline can only be delivered from 2030 onwards at the earliest. This means that if you order today, it is unlikely that you will receive the aircraft before then.
Therefore, Sun PhuQuoc Airways builds a flexible fleet development strategy, combining long-term, medium-term, and short-term plans, and between new purchases and lease operations to ensure operational progress. We do not limit ourselves to a fixed model, but diversify investment options, ensuring financial efficiency and proactively using resources to achieve the goal of expanding the fleet in each phase.
It is important that we take each step firmly, but with a long-term vision, so that Sun PhuQuoc Airways can develop sustainably and catch up with international market trends.

From that operational plan, it can be seen that Sun PhuQuoc Airways is taking very methodical steps right from the beginning. By 2026, what position do you expect the airline to achieve in the Vietnamese and regional aviation market?
Our goal by the end of 2026 is to operate about 25 aircraft , thereby completing the domestic flight network and expanding to international markets in Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia. With this fleet size, Sun PhuQuoc Airways will have enough capacity to connect major tourist centers in Vietnam - Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Cam Ranh - with Phu Quoc, and at the same time expand to international destinations such as Seoul, Bangkok, Singapore or Taipei.
We do not aspire to be the biggest airline, but rather an airline that is remembered for its difference and connection to the destination. When people think of Phu Quoc – they will think of Sun PhuQuoc Airways, as a symbol of convenience, friendliness and enjoyment.
Thank you for your heartfelt sharing! Wishing Sun PhuQuoc Airways a successful “take-off” on its journey to spread the beauty of Vietnam to the world!
