Racing to complete procedures to start construction of the new Phong Chau bridge by the end of 2024

The new Phong Chau bridge project in Phu Tho province is in the project design stage and is expected to be submitted for investment approval in early December.

Regarding the investment project to build the new Phong Chau bridge - National Highway 32C, a representative of the Thang Long Project Management Board (the unit assigned by the Ministry of Transport to manage and implement the project) said that at present, the Board has worked with the consulting unit to deploy the design and establish the project according to the emergency order.

"There are 3 economic and technical options being considered and compared. Regarding the route, the new bridge routes being studied include: going 500m downstream from the old bridge; running the same as the old bridge's centerline or the new bridge's centerline going 1m away from the old bridge's centerline.

According to the assessment, the plan that runs in the same direction as the center of the bridge requires insignificant land clearance; the plan that runs in the center of the bridge still requires land clearance at both ends of the bridge; the plan that the new bridge goes 500m downstream is difficult to ensure construction progress due to the large land clearance area.

Regarding the span diagram, there are 3 solutions being studied to build the most optimal plan in the fastest time", the representative of Thang Long Project Management Board informed, at the same time said that, according to the plan, by mid-November 2024, the investment plan for the new Phong Chau bridge will be consulted with professional units. The investment approval will be around the beginning of December 2025.

It is expected that the new Phong Chau bridge project will start construction in December this year at the earliest.

To ensure progress, the project will be both designed and constructed. The project is expected to be completed by December 2025.

Previously, the Department of Construction Investment Management (Ministry of Transport) issued a decision on issuing an order to urgently construct the new Phong Chau bridge construction investment project - National Highway 32C, Phu Tho province, according to regulations on urgent construction.

The new Phong Chau bridge construction investment project is assigned to Thang Long Project Management Board for management and construction in Tam Nong and Lam Thao districts (Phu Tho province) from the fourth quarter of 2024 to the fourth quarter of 2025.
