In recent days, prolonged heavy rains have caused many roads in Que Phuoc commune to continue to be deeply flooded, with water levels rising 3-5m in some places, completely cutting off residential areas, making it difficult to travel and supply essential goods. On National Highway 14H, many sections were flooded and eroded, especially at Khe Rinh Bridge where the water level was over 3m, making it impossible for vehicles to pass.
The commune authorities have put up warning signs, been on duty to guide people to ensure safety, and at the same time mobilized and evacuated households living in areas at risk of landslides to high, safe places.
In Binh Yen village, many volunteer groups have visited, encouraged, shared and supported people in cleaning their houses, village roads, schools and medical stations. In the past few days, 50 officers and soldiers of the 574th Armored Brigade have returned to help people overcome the consequences of the flood. The officers and soldiers divided into small groups, went to each village to clean mud, repair houses and schools, help people rebuild fences and clear sewers.
Touched by that spirit, Ms. Vu Thi Truong Giang, Head of the Women's Association of Binh Yen village, shared: "Seeing the soldiers come back to help the people, everyone sympathizes. The rain and floods have lasted for a long time, and the living conditions of the soldiers are still lacking, so the association has mobilized members to contribute dry firewood, vegetables, tubers, and fruits to cook and support the soldiers. The women also collect pots, bowls, mats, and drinking water to support the forces on duty. The soldiers work hard all day to help people clean mud and repair houses, but they are always cheerful and enthusiastic. We just hope to contribute a little effort and some gifts from the countryside so that the soldiers can have a hot meal and stay healthy to continue helping the people."
Tu Nhu village (Que Phuoc commune) is the area most severely affected by the recent floods. The only road from the suspension bridge to the village was severely eroded, hundreds of cubic meters of rock and soil spilled onto the road, cutting off traffic for more than a week, completely isolating 128 households with 556 people.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Hiep, a resident of Tu Nhu village, said: “We have been isolated since October 26th until now. The floodwaters have cut off roads, cut off electricity, and made life extremely difficult. In the past few days, volunteer groups have traveled long distances to bring gifts to the people, and everyone feels warm and encouraged. Thank you everyone for not being afraid of hardships to come to the flood victims.”
According to Mr. Nguyen Van My, Secretary of the Party Cell of Tu Nhu village, the flood caused landslides on Highway DH5, isolating 128 households, many houses were buried in mud, and roads were severely damaged. Immediately after the water receded, the village mobilized youth and militia forces to clear mud, clean the environment of residential areas and schools; at the same time, mobilized people to store food to ensure daily life for 10 days.
“Up to now, thanks to the attention of superiors and support from volunteer groups, more than 400 gifts including food, necessities, and clean water have been delivered to people, basically meeting essential needs during the isolation period,” said Mr. My.
Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh, Vice Chairman of Que Phuoc Commune People's Committee, said that in just the first few days after the flood, thousands of gifts were delivered to the people of Que Phuoc Commune. Many volunteer groups brought food, medicine, clothes, books, and clean water over long distances, transported by boat through landslides to promptly support people in the flood-hit areas.
“The cooperation of organizations, businesses and volunteer groups is a great source of encouragement to help people overcome difficulties. The commune government arranged forces to support transportation and guide groups to deliver gifts safely, ensuring that the gifts reach the right people, in the right place, and warm people's hearts in time,” Mr. Lanh acknowledged.
