The State Council of Professors for the 2024-2029 term has just officially announced the list of 900 candidates meeting the standards for the titles of Professor and Associate Professor in 2025.
Specifically, the youngest candidate meeting the standards for the title of Professor this year is Mr. Tran Quoc Trung, 39 years old (born in 1986), currently Deputy Director of Campus 2 of Foreign Trade University in Ho Chi Minh City.
The two youngest candidates who meet the standards for the title of Associate Professor in 2025, both born in 1992 (33 years old), are: Mr. Do Quang Loc, lecturer at the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications, University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Ms. Nguyen Ha Thanh, senior researcher at the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Institute of Chemistry, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
The field with the most candidates meeting the standards for the title of Professor and Associate Professor in 2025 is Economics (134 candidates); followed by Medicine (114 candidates); Chemistry (58 candidates).
The industries with the fewest candidates meeting the standards for the title of Professor or Associate Professor are Metallurgy (3 candidates) and Mechanics (5 candidates).
Previously, at the 4th Session, the State Council of Professors for the 2024-2029 term discussed and voted on the review results of the Industry and Interdisciplinary Councils of Professors and the list of qualified candidates recognized as meeting the standards for the titles of Professor and Associate Professor.
In 2025, 1,073 candidates (100 Professor candidates, 973 Associate Professor candidates) submitted applications for recognition of meeting the standards for the title of Professor and Associate Professor at 117 basic Professorial Councils.
After reviewing the documents, evaluating foreign language proficiency, evaluating the overall scientific report and voting for confidence, 1,014 candidates (93 Professor candidates, 921 Associate Professor candidates) were proposed to be considered for recognition of meeting the standards at 28 Industry and Interdisciplinary Professor Councils.
The Industry and Interdisciplinary Professor Councils met to consider and recognize the qualifications for the titles of Professor and Associate Professor in 2025, and as a result, 911 candidates (73 Professor candidates, 938 Associate Professor candidates) were proposed to the State Professor Council for recognition.
After receiving candidate profiles from the Industry and Interdisciplinary Professor Councils, the Office of the State Professor Council coordinated with the Standing Committees of the Industry and Interdisciplinary Professor Councils to examine and review the evidence of all candidate profiles, and report to the Standing Committee of the State Professor Council before submitting them to the State Professor Council for consideration and recognition.
The State Council of Professors has publicly discussed each candidate's profile, elected a vote counting committee and voted on the list of qualified candidates to be considered for recognition as meeting the standards for the titles of Professor and Associate Professor.
As a result, 900 candidates achieved the required number of votes of confidence, including 71 Professor candidates and 829 Associate Professor candidates. The passing rate compared to the total number of candidates who submitted their initial applications to the basic Professorial Councils up to this point is 83.88% (of which the passing rate of Professor candidates is 71.00% and Associate Professor candidates is 85.20%).
Basically, the quality of candidates in 2025 is quite good, foreign language proficiency has improved a lot, and candidates are guaranteed to have enough scientific research works published in international journals listed in ISI, Scopus or other prestigious journals.
In 2025, the disclosure of information on qualified candidates on the websites of higher education institutions and the website of the State Council of Professors will reflect the publicity and transparency of the process of evaluating the qualifications of Professors and Associate Professors.
Feedback from society, the scientific community... is a useful source of information to help functional units select qualified and deserving candidates for the title of Professor or Associate Professor.
Minister of Education and Training, Chairman of the State Council of Professors Nguyen Kim Son has directed the Office of the State Council of Professors to continue to coordinate with functional units of the Ministry of Education and Training to urgently publicize the results of the review according to regulations, and take the next steps to ensure the goals and plans set out in the work of reviewing Professors and Associate Professors in 2025.
