Night markets attract young customers
The shopping atmosphere at night markets like Hanh Thong Tay (Go Vap District) and Pham Van Hai (Tan Binh District) is very lively in the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year). Shops say they have also imported many new designs to meet the demand during this peak shopping season.
At Hanh Thong Tay night market, around 7 PM, young people were already bustling about. Clothing, shoes, and bags in a wide variety of styles and bright colors were displayed on shelves stretching along the entire street.
Ngoc Han (23 years old, residing in Go Vap district) revealed that usually, about two weeks before Tet, she invites her friends to stroll around the market, browsing but not rushing to buy anything. Han prefers night markets because the prices are reasonable and the designs are diverse, from clothes and shoes to accessories.
The lively and bustling atmosphere at the night market made Han feel even more strongly that Tet (Lunar New Year) was approaching.
Ms. Hong Hue (50 years old), the owner of a shoe store at Hanh Thong Tay night market, said that the market will be much more crowded in the days leading up to Tet.
This year, small business owners are listening to the trends of young customers when sourcing goods. She said that most young people usually browse the market two weeks before Tet, buy what they like right away, to avoid the situation of running out of beautiful designs or sizes, and also to buy early so they can go back to their hometowns.
"Because online shopping is so competitive, honestly, we're really relying on the revenue in the days leading up to Tet," Ms. Hue acknowledged.

The store was also bustling with customers coming and going.
The shops on Tran Quang Dieu Street (District 3) were also bustling with customers at 8 PM. Many customers even had to wait because all the fitting rooms were full.
According to sales staff, despite the somewhat sluggish economy this year, purchasing power during Tet (Lunar New Year) has not decreased compared to last year. Shops selling traditional Vietnamese dresses (áo dài) are very popular with customers.
Thuy Yen (28 years old, residing in District 3) proudly shared that she and her mother and younger sister often shop for Tet (Lunar New Year) items on this street. Yen said that a shirt here ranges from 150,000 to 250,000 VND depending on the material and style. This price range is suitable for students.
In particular, many stores also have attractive promotions such as free accessories, "buy 1 get 1 free" offers or great discounts.
Meanwhile, Quynh Tram (20 years old) took advantage of the evening to go shopping before returning to her hometown. She said she had found many items she liked.
Tram shared: “Not only during Tet, but I also come here whenever I need to shop. They have everything here, from clothes, shoes, accessories, jewelry to cosmetics… it’s very convenient.”
Meanwhile, Nguyen Trai Street (District 5), a popular fashion street, is also bustling. Having worked in Ho Chi Minh City for over 5 years, Quynh Hoa (25 years old, residing in District 8) always shops at fashion stores on Nguyen Trai Street during Tet (Lunar New Year).
"I like shopping here because of the wide variety of designs, many sizes, and affordable prices. In these tough economic times, I prioritize beautiful items at reasonable prices," Hoa said with a smile.
