Phone repair shop owner becomes Vietlott lottery ticket seller.

(Chinhphu.vn) - Having worked in many professions, from salt production to phone repair, Huynh Quoc Thai is now dedicated to running a Vietlott lottery ticket stall on Cach Mang Thang Tam Street. This seemingly simple job brings the 45-year-old man genuine joy every day.

This Vietlott lottery ticket sales point has a history of being a mobile phone repair shop.

Shifting direction away from the volatile mobile phone market.

Located at 1012 Cach Mang Thang Tam Street, Tan Ninh Ward, Tay Ninh Province, Huynh Quoc Thai's (45 years old) Vietlott lottery ticket sales point is a familiar address for many lottery players in the area. The shop is not large, neatly arranged, and adorned with banners and price lists, but it is always brightly lit from early morning until late at night.

Before joining Vietlott, Mr. Thai had over a decade of experience in the mobile phone business. His main job was unlocking networks, installing Vietnamese language packs on iPhones, and repairing common problems. At one point, his shop was a familiar address for local mobile phone users.

Mr. Thai said that the decision to change careers came as quite a surprise. When the mobile phone market was flooded with Chinese products, his business became increasingly unstable. Fewer customers, fierce price competition, and declining profits often discouraged him.

"I saw instructions on how to register to sell Vietlott tickets, so I followed them. Then, the company came to support the implementation, which was quite difficult because this model was still new. I thought simply: register first and learn as I go. I never expected to be involved until now," Mr. Thai shared.

In 2016, he officially opened his Vietlott lottery ticket sales point. In the early days, to let neighbors and passersby know about the new store, he "went big" by buying speakers and playing advertising music all day long.

"Every day we would play music and broadcast programs promoting Vietlott continuously from morning till evening. Everyone passing by would turn to look. Some people would stop out of curiosity to ask questions. It was so much fun!" he recalled.

The shop is open from 6:30 AM to 9:00 PM every day. According to him, the busiest times are in the afternoon and after work hours. In particular, whenever the Jackpot prize increases, the number of customers also increases noticeably.

"On days with big jackpots, there are significantly more customers. There was a time when the Power 6/55 jackpot reached over 200 billion VND, with daily sales of around 5 million VND, and sometimes even more," Mr. Thai said.

Regular customers, familiar joys.

Among the regular customers at Mr. Thai's shop, Mr. Ho Quoc Duy (35 years old, a ride-hailing driver) is a familiar face. For Mr. Duy, playing Vietlott is not just about hoping to win, but also a way to entertain himself in his free time.

"I often play Power 6/55 and Keno. I buy Power 6/55 tickets hoping for the big prize, while Keno has quick results so I buy them in my free time for entertainment. I play for fun, but I also hope to win the Jackpot one day," Duy said.

Returning to the ticket vendor, Mr. Thai said that although the store had never sold a winning Jackpot ticket, many customers had won smaller prizes.

"Actually, there have been a few times when customers won 40 million VND in Power 6/55 and 10 million VND in Mega 6/45. Keno has also had winners, but not yet in the Jackpot. I still hope that one day, a big prize will come to my shop," he confided.

For Mr. Thai, what makes him happy is not just the revenue, but also the emotion of ticket buyers when they win a prize, even if it's a small amount of money.

"Some people only won 50,000 dong but they were all smiles. They said they didn't spend any money buying tickets today. Hearing that made me happy. As long as the customers are happy, I feel this job is worthwhile," Mr. Thai said.

For Mr. Thai, the Vietlott store is not only a place to make a living but also a space to share and chat with regular customers.
