On the afternoon of November 5, on the Maspero River, which was brilliant with flags and flowers, the Om Boc Can Tho City boat race 2025 - the main activity within the framework of the Om Boc festival of the Khmer people in the South - ended after 2 days of thrilling competition, leaving in the hearts of tens of thousands of spectators and tourists impressive moments of enthusiastic cheering.

From early morning, both sides of the Maspero River were packed with spectators. The sound of drums and cheers of "ha do, ha do" resounded, combined with the colorful flags and streamers, creating the most vibrant village festival atmosphere in the West.

Each Ngo boat race was a wave of emotions. Under the scorching sun, 53 male boat teams and 8 female boat teams from many provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta gave the audience breathtaking accelerations in the 1,200m men's and 1,000m women's races.

In the group stage, the swimmers competed fiercely to win a place in the round of 32 strong teams. From the knockout rounds to the final, each stroke of the beam carried the will and pride of the Khmer community in the South. Many spectacular accelerations in the final meters of water made the stands on both banks explode with enthusiastic cheers and encouragement.

This year’s tournament has a total prize value of nearly 1.4 billion VND. The winning male and female teams receive 200 million VND; second, third, and fourth prizes are 150 million, 100 million, and 80 million VND, respectively.

In addition, the Organizing Committee also awarded prizes to the first and second place teams and the winners of each round, and each participating team was supported with 30 million VND, contributing to motivating the swimmers right from the start.

According to the competition format, in the men's 1,200m event, 53 teams are divided into 13 groups (4-5 teams each), competing in a round robin to select 32 teams to advance to the round of 16, quarter-finals and finals. In the women's 1,000m event, 8 teams are divided into 2 groups, selecting the 4 best teams to advance to the next round.

After 2 days of fierce competition, in the men's category, the boat team from Tum Nup 2 pagoda (An Ninh commune, Can Tho city) won the championship; the boat team from Prek On Dok 2 won second prize and the boat team from Prek Ta Cuol pagoda won third prize.

In the women's category, the Tum Nup Pagoda's boat racing team won first place; the second prize was awarded to Kosthum 2 Pagoda and the third prize was awarded to Ngan Dua Pagoda. This is also the third consecutive year that the Tum Nup men's and women's teams have won the boat racing championship.
The 2025 Can Tho City Ngo Boat Race is not only a race of strength and speed, but also a symbol of solidarity and pride of the Khmer people in the South.
