OCOP products and startup products attract customers' attention at the 2nd Mekong Delta Startup Forum 2024

Last year, the province continued to promote the propaganda work on the policies and orientations for implementing the OCOP Program. Creating leverage for the development of OCOP products, units also integrated mechanisms and policies to effectively support the development of OCOP products and startup products in the province.

Accordingly, the Department of Industry and Trade coordinated to implement support for 12 establishments with a total estimated support budget of VND 2,713 billion to invest in advanced machinery and equipment for production activities. The Department of Science and Technology supported 108 dossiers of subjects on investment in science and technology activities with a total budget of more than VND 1,144 billion. At the same time, from the tourism development investment policy, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism supported more than 100 agricultural tourism and community tourism attractions, of which 55 were recognized as meeting standards for serving tourists with a disbursement budget of more than VND 19 billion.

The province has paid attention to implementing activities to promote digital transformation in enterprises. At the same time, it regularly maintains activities to support the consumption of agricultural products for farmers and agricultural production households on e-commerce platforms to promote the development of the digital economy in agriculture and rural areas. Accordingly, 581 products were recognized as OCOP (464 3-star products; 116 4-star products and 1 5-star product) of 246 entities maintaining business on major e-commerce platforms (Tiki, Lazada, Shopee, Sendo, TikTok...); 100% of OCOP products are maintained on e-commerce platforms.

The province also implemented a program to promote and support people, businesses, business households, and OCOP entities to have a reliable and safe online presence with digital services using the national domain name “.vn”. To date, 2,451 domain names have been developed, bringing the total number of national domain names in the province to 4,311.

According to the Provincial People's Committee, up to now, the province has 581 products (464 3-star products; 116 4-star products and 1 5-star product) of 246 entities. It is encouraging that the province's key industries have many OCOP products reaching 3-4 stars. The rice industry has 66 rice and rice-processed products recognized as meeting OCOP standards from 3-4 stars; the mango industry has 13 products recognized as meeting OCOP 3-star standards and exported to demanding markets. The ornamental flower industry has 7 experiential tourism spots recognized as meeting OCOP 3-4 stars; the tra fish industry has 6 products recognized as meeting OCOP 3-star standards. For the lotus industry, there are 60 processed products and value-added products from lotus recognized as meeting OCOP standards from 3-5 stars. Lotus products are gradually diversifying and currently have about 500 products in the groups of food, handicrafts, medicine, cosmetics...

It is noteworthy that OCOP subjects increasingly understand the meaning of the OCOP Program, and are interested in investing in improving product quality. Support policies in standardizing and developing OCOP products are implemented promptly to bring products into business at large distribution systems and develop business through e-commerce. On the other hand, OCOP products are always given priority in promoting and promoting trade at domestic and foreign trade events.

Besides the advantages, there are still some limitations and difficulties such as: the number of 5-star OCOP products, the number of OCOP cooperatives has not reached the expected level; many duplicate products in the same locality; packaging and labels have not been standardized and completed according to the regulations of the OCOP Program and current global market trends; the initiative in promoting brands and goods of some entities is still limited...

Faced with these advantages and difficulties, the Provincial People's Committee issued a Plan to implement the OCOP Program in 2025 with a number of key targets. Accordingly, maintaining, consolidating and improving the quality of products certified with 3-5 OCOP stars; striving to have at least 60 new products participating in the 2025 classification assessment. Of which, 40 are 3-star products and 20 are 4-star products (each district and city has at least 2 new products participating in the 4-star OCOP assessment).

Support at least 5 potential 5-star OCOP products to complete the dossier to request the Central Government to evaluate and recognize National OCOP products. Strive to have at least 50% of OCOP products recognized in 2022 participate in the evaluation and reclassification in 2025. Prioritize the development of cooperatives, small and medium enterprises, and craft villages with raw material sources to supply enterprises and business households participating in the evaluation and classification of OCOP products; strive for each district and city to support at least 1 new OCOP entity which is a cooperative, 1 OCOP product from a craft village, traditional craft village. Strive to participate in the international cooperation forum for each village/commune with one product at least once a year to enhance and affirm the Dong Thap OCOP brand.

At the same time, continue to maintain the criteria such as: striving for each district-level unit to build at least 1 value chain in the direction of circular economy, green OCOP associated with stable raw material areas; supporting the standardization and development of OCOP products associated with the establishment of reconfiguring industries in the direction of value, developing a green, sustainable economy, suitable to the advantages and conditions of the locality. The rate of trained workers with appropriate degrees and certificates working at OCOP entities reaches at least 10% and at least 40% of OCOP entities are female; 100% of OCOP entities participate in modern sales channels and the province's OCOP products are traded in an environment where transactions are conducted...
