Da Nang creates a platform for the startup community to 'Reach the creative frontier'

On August 30, at the University of Technology (Da Nang), the Department of Science and Technology of Da Nang city organized the opening ceremony of the Da Nang Innovation and Startup Festival - SURF 2024.

Da Nang has many advantages and potentials.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Hoang Minh said that in recent times, Vietnam's innovative startup ecosystem has developed strongly, creating a new generation of businesses that operate based on intellectual property and have the capacity to access the global market.

National Centers for Supporting Innovative Startups are being established in Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and several other localities. More than 20 localities have established Innovative Startup Centers to connect local, regional and national resources.

Currently, Vietnam is estimated to have about 3,800 innovative startups, of which 11 are valued at over 100 million USD and have 2 startup unicorns, 208 investment funds, 84 incubators, 35 business promotion organizations, and the number of angel investors continues to grow positively.

In 2024, along with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang was named in the list of 1,000 global startup cities.

Da Nang has achieved many positive results: A center to support innovative startups has been established; educational institutions, incubators, business promotion organizations, networks of experts, consultants, and innovative startups are developing strongly; in 2023, Da Nang ranked 4th in the country in terms of local innovation index.

Units signed a cooperation agreement for startups at SURF.

In particular, the city has advised and submitted to the National Assembly for promulgation Resolution No. 136/2024/QH15 dated June 26, 2024 regulating the organization of urban government and piloting a number of specific mechanisms and policies for the development of Da Nang city; including specific policy groups on science, technology and innovation management.

The results achieved show that Da Nang is a locality with many advantages and great potential to develop and promote creative start-up activities, recognized by the domestic and international community.

Deputy Minister Hoang Minh emphasized: “On this occasion, the Ministry of Science and Technology requests that Da Nang city and other localities join hands and coordinate with the Ministry in the process of building and perfecting the legal corridor on innovation and creative startups; contributing to creating a vibrant and sustainable creative startup ecosystem”.

SURF 2024 includes the main contents: Final round of the Da Nang City Innovation and Startup Competition; Live exhibition of innovation and startup; Presentation of ideas - Investment connection in startups; Launch of the Da Nang-Singapore Innovation Space; Signing of startup cooperation.

The organizers awarded the first prize to the UCTalent Project.

Along with that are the seminars: Connecting investment and innovation between Da Nang - Korea - Singapore; Pioneering technology - Sustainable startups; Model and network for developing student startup clubs in Da Nang city.

Through that, SURF 2024 continues its mission of nurturing and developing innovative ideas, connecting with investors and leading startup experts to realize ideas and develop strongly in the market.

Previously, on August 29, 10 most outstanding startup projects presented their ideas at the Da Nang City Innovation and Startup Competition. On this occasion, the Organizing Committee awarded the First Prize to the UCTalent Project.

UCTalent applies artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology, changing recruitment methods, contributing to solving problems in the technology recruitment market, especially in the fields of blockchain and web3.

Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Tran Chi Cuong said that he hopes that in the coming time, the Da Nang startup ecosystem will develop more and more strongly, becoming an attractive destination, connecting innovative startup resources, domestic and international startups to cooperate, invest and develop together. Hopefully, the city's innovative startup projects/enterprises will be more and more proactive in innovating, transforming growth models and creating more added values; taking advantage of many domestic and international support resources.
