DNVN - The Da Nang Department of Health reports that the shortage of medicines for medical examinations and treatment has continued to occur sporadically and temporarily at some public medical facilities since the second quarter of 2024; the supply of medical equipment, consumables, and laboratory chemicals is still experiencing disruptions.
According to the Da Nang Department of Health, most public medical facilities in the city have now ensured the basic needs for medicines for examination and treatment, including emergency medications; essential medications for inpatient treatment; and some medications for outpatient treatment of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, and respiratory illnesses.
The pharmacy at Da Nang Eye Hospital is still experiencing a serious shortage of medication.
In particular, there is a serious shortage of medicines at retail drug outlets such as pharmacies and drug counters in some hospitals, especially tertiary hospitals and specialized hospitals like Da Nang Hospital, Da Nang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, Da Nang Eye Hospital, and Da Nang Mental Hospital, due to the prioritization of bidding for emergency medicines, inpatient treatment, and outpatient dispensing.
Regarding the supply of medical equipment, consumables, and laboratory chemicals, the Da Nang Department of Health stated that since the end of 2022, procurement at units under the Department of Health has been carried out proactively by these units according to the decentralization regulations stipulated in Resolution 60/2022/NQ-HĐND of the Da Nang City People's Council on the authority to decide on the procurement of public assets. This aims to ensure proactive and timely procurement, meeting the specific needs of each unit in providing medical examination and treatment services.
As of September 30, 2024, healthcare units had implemented 152 bidding packages with a total value of nearly 424 billion VND, corresponding to more than 4,900 items. Of these, the total value of completed bidding packages was over 350 billion VND; the total value of ongoing bidding packages was over 74 billion VND.
However, according to the Da Nang Department of Health, disruptions in the supply of medical supplies and chemicals still occur at some units at certain times while awaiting the results of the bidding process. For example, Da Nang Hospital lacks infusion tubing and nylon needles; the Eye Hospital lacks artificial lenses, various types of silicone tubing, vitreous cutting tips, etc.
