Responding to concerns about whether the controversy surrounding the film "Southern Forest Land" would affect the Vietnam Film Festival, Director Vi Kiến Thành spoke out.
On the morning of October 30th, the 23rd Vietnam Film Festival was announced with the slogan: "Building a Vietnamese film industry rich in national identity, modern and humane."
Here, the list of films selected to compete for the official awards in the Feature Film, Documentary - Science Film, and Animated Film categories has been announced.

Among them, the category that received the most attention was Feature Films, with the participation of films such as *Southern Forest Land *, *The Last Wife*, *Hong Ha Female Writer*, *Brilliant Ashes*, *Mrs. Nu's House*, *Girl from the Past*, *9*, *The Little Girl Looking for a Husband*, *Dao, Pho and Piano*, *You and Trinh*, *FANTI*, *Jasmine Flower*, *The Anonymous*, *578*, *Mother, Here's the Butterfly*, and *Ten: The Curse Returns*.
At the press conference, representatives from the Film Department answered questions from the press, including how the film " Southern Forest Land," which is currently receiving mixed reviews, is affecting its chances of winning an award.
Regarding this matter, Mr. Vi Kien Thanh, Director of the Cinema Department and Head of the Film Festival Organizing Committee, stated: “The Councils and Jurys will decide the awards, while public opinion and audience feedback will be considered in the Audience Choice Award for their favorite film. The awards and results at the Film Festival are based solely on the evaluations of the Jurys.”
However, the list of judges remains confidential to date. Responding to this issue, Mr. Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated that the Organizing Committee will, as per usual practice, keep the jury members secret until just before the film festival, and that the jury is currently focused on reviewing films to determine the winners.
The film "Southern Forest Land" is competing for the Golden Lotus Award at the Vietnam Film Festival.
Regarding the list of artists who will attend the film festival, Mr. Ta Quang Dong said that the film crews are currently confirming the participants. The official list will be announced at a press conference on November 10th in Da Lat.
From the 31 feature films, 82 documentaries, 23 science films, and 43 animated films submitted to the Film Festival, the Organizing Committee established a council to select films for two programs: the Competition Film Program and the Panorama Film Program.
Of these, 91 films were selected for the Film Competition Program, including: 16 feature films, 31 documentaries, 19 science films, and 25 animated films;
56 films were selected for the Panorama Film Program, including: 14 feature films, 20 documentaries, four science films, and 18 animated films.
The Vietnam Film Festival 2023 will take place from November 21-25, 2023 in Da Lat city, Lam Dong province.
