Speed up winter crop planting progress

People of Xuan Lap commune take care of winter crops.

According to the plan, this winter crop, Xuan Lap commune strives to plant 1,120 hectares of various crops. Right from the beginning of the crop, the Commune Production Steering Committee has requested the Agricultural Service Cooperative to proactively supply seeds, fertilizers and agricultural materials according to the needs of the people. At the same time, assigning officials in charge of each village, regularly propagandizing and urging people to plant winter crops according to the crop schedule. In addition, the commune's professional department also actively guides people to apply advanced technical measures in production, ensuring good crop growth and high productivity. However, due to the impact of the recent storm No. 10, some areas of crops in the commune were flooded and severely damaged. The Commune Production Steering Committee quickly went to the grassroots level, instructing people to overcome, patch up and replant the dead areas. At the same time, the commune recommends that people switch to growing short-term crops such as cucumbers, cabbage, green vegetables, etc. to keep up with the crop schedule and ensure the planned planting area. Currently, most of the affected area has been restored, the crops are growing stably, and people are focusing on care, fertilization and pest control.

As of October 26, the whole commune had planted 730 hectares of winter crops, reaching more than 65.1% of the winter crop production plan for the 2025-2026 year. Vice Chairman of Xuan Lap Commune People's Committee Hoang Anh Viet said: "The commune identifies the winter crop as an important production crop of the year, with favorable climate conditions for many temperate crops such as cabbage, kohlrabi, carrots, cauliflower, onions, garlic, etc. to grow. Therefore, immediately after the harvest, the commune organized a review of the cultivated land area, zoning production areas, arranging a reasonable planting schedule and guiding people to choose varieties suitable for the weather and soil conditions of each field. In particular, the commune directed the cooperative to proactively source seeds and materials so that people do not have production interruptions. In addition, the commune encourages people to continue to diversify other groups of plants in the winter crop, paying special attention to intercropping vegetables to reduce the phenomenon of both surplus and shortage; linking production with food safety certification, protecting the ecological environment and increasing income value for people".

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, by October 25, the whole province had planted 17,408 hectares of winter crops/total plan of 46,000 hectares, reaching 37.8%. Of which, corn area reached 5,655 hectares, peanuts 905 hectares, sweet potatoes 648 hectares, vegetables and beans of all kinds 8,282 hectares and other crops 1,920 hectares. Localities with fast planting progress are Hoa Loc, Hoang Chau, Xuan Hoa communes and Tan Dan ward.

According to the 2025-2026 winter crop production plan of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, for the group of warm-loving crops, the early winter crop will be sown, the planting season will end before October 10, 2025. For the group of cold-loving crops, the planting season will end after October 10, 2025. Potatoes will be planted from October 20, 2025 to November 15, 2025. The agricultural sector also recommends that localities scale the production of each type of crop and arrange appropriate crop spacing to ensure supply and limit surplus during the main crop season. However, due to the continuous impact of storms and prolonged heavy rains at the beginning of the season, many areas of winter crops in the province were flooded, had to be replanted or could not be deployed, so the progress of winter crop production in some communes and wards in the province is still slow.

Head of the Crop Production Department, Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection Trinh Van Chat said: “Due to the impact of early season storms, many crop areas were flooded and suffered heavy damage. Some households are facing difficulties in capital investment for production, while pests and diseases are at risk of emerging strongly such as fall armyworms that damage corn, red spiders, downy mildew, and pseudo-downy mildew on squash and pumpkin plants... If not prevented in time, it will greatly affect productivity. Therefore, the department has advised the Department of Agriculture and Environment to direct localities to proactively adjust production plans, expand acreage in areas with favorable conditions, consider the winter crop as the main crop to compensate for the damage of the autumn crop due to storms, ensuring income for people and the supply of agricultural products to the market."

With the close direction of the agricultural sector, the proactiveness of localities and the spirit of efforts to overcome difficulties of farmers in the province, the 2025-2026 winter crop is expected to complete the set plan, supplying safe agricultural products to serve consumer demand at the end of the year.
