The above are comments from some teachers on the sample high school graduation exam questions for 2025 recently released by the Ministry of Education and Training .
Fresh and straightforward, without complicated calculations.
As someone who has participated in critical reviews of many areas of education , teacher Vu Khac Ngoc (Hanoi) believes that the 2025 sample exam is excellent, innovative, and almost a complete break with the old general education curriculum.
According to Mr. Ngoc, the sample exam will challenge many schools because a series of data systems and examination methods will have to be completely changed in the future.
Specifically, in the past, exam questions were heavily reliant on complex, tricky, confusing, and… meaningless calculations, especially in natural science subjects which overused heavy computational techniques.

In this sample test, except for a few essential basic questions, the difficult questions require a wide range of student abilities. Besides mastering foundational knowledge, skills in reading comprehension, searching, analyzing, processing information, and modeling information to solve problems are all crucial. These are all new skills that the old curriculum did not explicitly address.
In particular, the scenarios used as models in the lesson are very close to reality, meaningful, and require students to be able to apply their knowledge, understand the meaning and value of knowledge in real-life situations and in experimental research and production practice.
"In my opinion, this exam is truly innovative, modern, and pioneering, especially given our current education system that places so much emphasis on exams and a strong focus on test-taking. This exam will undoubtedly serve as a model for other exams, such as the 10th grade entrance exam, specialized school entrance exams, or gifted student competitions."
"At the same time, the entire system, from the end of junior high school upwards, is looking at this to adjust the way we teach and learn for students. I believe this innovation has a very positive and widespread impact," Mr. Ngoc said.
Exam preparation students are still... shocked.
According to Mr. Ngoc, immediately after the Ministry of Education and Training announced the sample exam questions for the 2025 high school graduation exam, a number of teachers, especially well-known exam preparation teachers, were extremely surprised, even stunned.
"Over the past two years, I've done quite a bit of in-depth research on aptitude tests at several universities, but I was still shocked when I encountered this test because it's drastically different from the old one."
Currently, only a few universities have progressive, independent entrance exams that are comparable to those of the Ministry of Education and Training, while others are still very outdated," Mr. Ngoc added.

From the same perspective, Mr. Dinh Duc Hien, Deputy Principal of FPT Bac Giang Inter-level High School, commented: "The 2025 sample exam questions are really interesting!"
Mr. Hien believes that the sample high school graduation exam has truly changed, focusing more on assessing competence than the current exams that are labeled as competency-based.
Therefore, with this exam format, it is certain that the aptitude tests currently held by some universities will have to change.
"Certainly, the pressure for change is growing and becoming more apparent on teachers, and the market for exam materials is about to become very active. This significant change is not coming from the students, but from the teachers," Mr. Hien said.
Mr. Dao Tuan Dat, Chairman of Anhxtanh High School (Hanoi), also acknowledged that with this exam, many universities with their own entrance exams will certainly have to make changes.
In particular, many schools and even teachers will have to make significant changes as the previous examination data system is no longer applicable due to its outdated nature.
