(NLĐO) - The son who poured gasoline on his own mother and set her on fire in Tra Vinh showed signs of severe depression and frequently argued with her.
On March 1st, the Criminal Police Department of Tra Vinh Provincial Police initiated a criminal case, charged the suspect, and sent Duong Quoc Trung (21 years old; residing in Ward 7, Tra Vinh City) for psychiatric evaluation to investigate the act of murder.

According to the police, after the incident occurred, noticing that Trung exhibited many signs of mental illness, the authorities took him to the Forensic Psychiatry Center of the Southwest Region ( Can Tho City) for a psychiatric evaluation to strengthen the case file for processing according to regulations.
As reported by Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper, on the afternoon of February 24, Ms. NNPL (42 years old; Trung's mother) was attacked by Trung, who threw a 1.5-liter bottle of gasoline on her and then set her on fire with a lighter. Trung also used bricks and a nunchaku to hit Ms. L. on the head.
When the incident occurred, many local residents used fire extinguishers to put out the fire and subdue and arrest Trung. Ms. L. suffered severe burns and was taken to Tra Vinh Provincial General Hospital for emergency treatment, then transferred to Cho Ray Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City) for further treatment.
Trung used to work as a laborer in another province and returned home around January 2025. Recently, Trung has shown signs of severe depression and frequently argues with his mother.
