On the morning of May 7, in Sin Thau commune, Muong Nhe district, Dien Bien province, the People's Committee of Dien Bien province held a flag raising ceremony and installed a signboard for the A Pa Chai flagpole project.
Attending the ceremony were Lieutenant General Thai Dai Ngoc, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Chief of the General Staff. Vietnam People's Army; Major General Nguyen Duc Manh, Deputy Commander of the Border Guard; representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Public Security and Military Region 2.
Delegates from Dien Bien province included comrade Tran Quoc Cuong, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee; Le Thanh Do, Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee; Lo Van Phuong, Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Council.
The A Pa Chai flagpole project started construction in November 2023 with a total investment of 31 billion VND. The construction site is at the top of the Khoang La San mountain range, Sin Thau commune, Muong Nhe district (Dien Bien province), at an altitude of 1,459m above sea level, about 1,387m from the border junction (marker 0).
According to the design, the overall area of the flagpole is 407m2 wide, including the surrounding walking path, flag-raising yard, flower beds..., stylized like a white flower blooming in the Northwest mountains and forests.
The flagpole has a total height of 45.19m, built in an octagonal shape, showing balance, solidity, and majesty. The size of the flag is 7.5x5m; the area is 37.5m2, associated with the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory Day (May 7, 1954).
The base of the flagpole is highlighted by 5 reliefs depicting typical images of Northwest culture and ethnic motifs, according to 5 themes. In addition, on the top of the flagpole, there is a stone relief with the theme of Uncle Ho with the Northwest ethnic groups. The path up to the flagpole consists of 519 steps (symbolizing the 19 ethnic groups of Dien Bien province) following the natural terrain of the hillside.
Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Le Thanh Do, Chairman of the People's Committee Dien Bien province emphasized that the A Pa Chai flagpole is not only an architectural work with profound historical, cultural and political significance, but also a symbol affirming the sacred territorial sovereignty of the Fatherland. In particular, this work also contributes to helping Muong Nhe district in particular and Dien Bien province in general effectively exploit the available potential and advantages associated with the preservation and maintenance of the cultural identity of ethnic groups, historical relics and improving the ecological environment, improving the material and spiritual life of the people, maintaining political security, social order and safety and national border sovereignty.
