(Dan Tri Newspaper) - After two years of construction, the T3 passenger terminal project has taken shape and is in the final stages of installation and architecture before being put into operation in April 2025.
The construction project for Terminal 3 at Tan Son Nhat Airport is nearing completion, with 83% of the total work already finished. The project is expected to be operational by April 30, 2025, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of national reunification, and will address the long-standing overcrowding at Tan Son Nhat International Airport. Terminal 3 is planned on a plot of land exceeding 16 hectares, situated between the existing airport and a defense zone. At the end of 2024, the project entered its final phase. The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the investor, launched a 120-day and night race to complete the entire project, requiring construction units to make maximum efforts, especially with the Lunar New Year approaching. Currently, all 21 bridge deck sections have been completed 100%, the railings are expected to be installed in January 2025, and the elevated bridge will be completed on February 20, 2025. Mr. Le Khac Hong, Head of the T3 Station Project Management Board, said that the entire project has been energized and is in the process of completing the interior. The electromechanical works have reached 92% completion. The indoor fire protection system has been installed to 65% completion and is expected to be finished in January 2025, while the outdoor fire extinguishing system has reached 74% completion, with 2,350m/3,174m of piping completed. The telescopic bridge system has completed 13 out of 13 foundations and is expected to be fully installed in January 2025. The exterior glass elevator is currently being installed.
The multi-story parking facility, combined with non-aviation services, comprises a complex of 2 basement levels, 4 above-ground levels, and a 3-story motorbike parking block connected by a walkway, covering a total construction floor area of 130,000 m2. This will house parking, a shopping center, a hotel, and restaurants serving passengers, staff, and local residents. Regarding the landscaping outside the station, compaction work has been completed on 8,600 m²/25,500 m², reaching 33%. Approximately 283/874 trees have been transported to the construction site, reaching 30%. The glass curtain wall project, part of the architectural finishing work, is currently 94% complete. The expanded aircraft parking area is 100% complete and is currently undergoing final acceptance procedures. Inspired by the traditional Ao Dai dress, the station's roof architecture is designed with soft curves, harmonizing with the existing station and conveying a youthful and vibrant message of a dynamic city striving for development. Below, the passenger station's ceiling has been completed, including the structural framework and the attic ceiling. The T3 terminal construction project commenced in December 2022, comprising three main components: a passenger terminal, a multi-story parking garage combined with non-aviation services, and an elevated walkway system in front of the terminal. The total investment is 10,990 billion VND. According to the design, Terminal 3 will handle a passenger traffic of 20 million per year. The terminal has one basement level and four above-ground levels, with a total floor area of 112,500 m2. The terminal connects to the apron via 26 boarding gates (13 jet bridges and 13 bus gates); there are 6 baggage claim areas for departures and 10 baggage claim areas for arrivals. The project not only improves aviation infrastructure but also plays a strategic role in definitively resolving the congestion problem at Tan Son Nhat Airport that has persisted for many years.
