In response to the invitation, reference number GB/AS 1732, WHP. Inv dated October 18th, from the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) regarding a direct dialogue on the scientific dossier of the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiet Bac Complex of Monuments and Scenic Spots submitted to UNESCO for recognition as a World Heritage Site, on the morning of November 26th, the Vietnamese expert-level dialogue delegation, led by Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh, Vice Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee, held meetings and working sessions with Mr. Lazane, Director and Head of the Nomination Section of the World Heritage Centre; the Ambassador and Head of the Permanent Mission of India to UNESCO; and the Ambassadors of the World Heritage Committee member states in Paris. Ms. Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Ambassador and Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to UNESCO, also participated in the working sessions.
During the working sessions, on behalf of the Vietnamese delegation, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh, Vice Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee, discussed and clarified issues regarding the dossier of the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiet Bac Complex of Historical Sites and Scenic Spots: the story of its heritage and outstanding global value, the distinctive value of Truc Lam Buddhist architecture, the differences between this Buddhist architecture and other Buddhist architectures in the region; cultural landscape; management work and the role of the community.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh, Vice Chairwoman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee, particularly emphasized the efforts in building, preserving, and promoting the values of the historical site. The Vice Chairwoman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee expressed her hope that Mr. Lazane, Director of the World Heritage Centre, the Ambassador and Head of the Permanent Mission of India to UNESCO, and the Ambassadors of the World Heritage Committee member states in Paris would pay attention to and support the process of approving and recognizing the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiet Bac complex of historical sites and scenic spots as a World Heritage Site.
During their working visit to France, the delegation visited the Vietnamese Embassy and held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to France. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh, Vice Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee, reported on the progress of the scientific dossier for the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiet Bac Complex of Historical Sites and Scenic Landscapes to be submitted to UNESCO for recognition as a World Heritage Site; the development achievements of Quang Ninh province; and expressed their hope to continue receiving support and assistance from the Embassy and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to France.
