Ho Chi Minh City delegation visited and presented gifts to soldiers, people and children on Hon Chuoi Island (Ca Mau province)

On the morning of September 19, within the framework of a working trip to visit and encourage officers, soldiers and people on the islands and DK1 Platform in the southwestern sea of the Fatherland, the Ho Chi Minh City delegation visited Hon Chuoi Island, Ca Mau Province.

The delegation included Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Bong, Political Commissar of the Navy, Head of the working delegation; Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Tran Kim Yen and more than 200 delegates representing many units in Ho Chi Minh City.

On behalf of the delegation, comrade Pham Minh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City expressed his joy and emotion when visiting the officers and soldiers of Hon Chuoi Island - the southwestern outpost island of the Fatherland.

According to him, Hon Chuoi is an island not far from the mainland, however, the living and traveling conditions of the soldiers and people on the island are still very difficult. Currently, Hon Chuoi Island does not have a medical station or a national school system for children on the island to study. Therefore, the self-governing people's group has coordinated with Border Guard Station 704 and Radar Station 615 to open a charity class taught by officers and soldiers of Hon Chuoi Border Guard Station. The charity class with 30 students from grades 1 to 7 has been recognized as a school in theeducation system of Song Doc Town.

Despite the many difficulties in life, the armed forces on the island always do a good job of firmly protecting the sovereignty of the sea and island borders. Strictly control people and vehicles entering and leaving the sea border area; maintain political security, social order and safety; effectively fight against all types of crime; proactively prevent and mitigate natural disasters, search and rescue.

With affection, responsibility and honor, the delegation visited Hon Chuoi Island, comrade Pham Minh Tuan expressed the determination of Ho Chi Minh City in making efforts with the whole country, for the whole country and for the sacred islands of the fatherland.

Rear Admiral Pham Van Quang, Deputy Chief of Political Affairs of the Navy, acknowledged the efforts of officers and soldiers in overcoming difficulties and completing their tasks well.

Reporting to the working delegation, Captain Phung Sy Chuong, Head of Radar Station 615 of Naval Region 5, said that recently, all officers and soldiers have strictly complied with the military and unit's legal regulations, no soldiers have violated discipline; done well in mass mobilization work, especially maintaining two models: "Each unit is associated with a charity address" and "Drop of love"; donated more than 400kg of rice and more than 50 cubic meters of fresh water to poor families; and gave gifts to children on the island on the occasion of Children's Day.

Thereby, enhancing the solidarity of soldiers, further highlighting the image of "Uncle Ho's soldiers - Navy soldiers" in the hearts of the people. The station also strives to overcome difficulties, promote internal strength, organize production and livestock production to exceed the set targets, effectively manage and use gifts from visiting delegations, thereby improving the soldiers' lives.

On this occasion, the Ho Chi Minh City delegation presented meaningful gifts from the Party Committee, government and people of Ho Chi Minh City to the officers and soldiers of Radar Station 615 of Battalion 551, Naval Region 5, and the forces stationed on the island. In addition, they presented machinery, equipment, means of living and gifts to people in difficult circumstances and children on the island.

Hon Chuoi Island belongs to Song Doc town, Tran Van Thoi district, Ca Mau province, located nearly 32km west of the mainland, is one of the important outpost islands in the southwest of the Fatherland.

The island has very complex terrain, high slopes, and very harsh climate conditions, little rain, lots of sunshine, and two distinct windy seasons.

Currently, on the island there is a self-governing group of 40 households with more than 120 people. The islanders live mainly by cage fish farming and fishing.

On the island there are also military and civilian units: Radar Station 615 of Regiment 551, Naval Region 5; Border Guard Station 704, Ca Mau Provincial Border Guard and Hon Chuoi Lighthouse Station.
