Indian companies are adjusting their global human resources strategies, including increasing local recruitment in the US. This move is aimed at adapting to stricter US immigration policies.
The CEO of leading Indian conglomerate Tata Technologies said the company will expand hiring in the US to mitigate risks from new H1-B visa regulations. Indian workers currently account for nearly 75% of those granted this visa type.
Tata Technologies alone has over 12,000 employees globally, with revenue for the 2024-2025 fiscal year reaching 51.68 billion rupees, equivalent to nearly $588 million. North America accounts for approximately 20% of revenue.
Indian engineering service providers, which rely heavily on outsourcing contracts from large US corporations, have been under pressure as automotive clients cut spending due to the impact of US tariffs.
However, Tata Technologies CEO remains optimistic about the US market. Mr. Harris said that this continues to be a very vibrant and important market. He added that the company sees a recovery in the US in the next 6-9 months, as customers adjust to the new tariff regime.
The United States plans to impose a steep fee on companies applying for H-1B visas, which are used by tech giants like Amazon.com and Meta Platforms. The Trump administration says the move is aimed at protecting American workers from wage competition from foreign workers. Indian workers accounted for nearly three-quarters of those granted H-1B visas last year, according to government data.
