The program is organized by the Australian National Tourism Organization in collaboration with the Australian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.
Speaking at the event, Jonathan Saw, representative of the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, highly appreciated the potential for developing two-way tourism between Australia and Vietnam.
As evidence, Jonathan Saw stated that in the last two years, the number of direct flights between Australia and Vietnam has doubled, from 42 flights per week to 84 flights per week. Accordingly, approximately 150,000 Vietnamese people visited Australia in 2023, while the number of Australian tourists visiting Vietnam reached 390,000, equivalent to pre-Covid-19 pandemic levels.
Australian tourism research data indicates that Vietnam is the fastest-growing passenger market and ranks among the top 3 (after China and India) in terms of the number of tourist visa applications from Australia. In the first five months of 2024 alone, the number of Australian tourists to Vietnam increased by 35% compared to the same period last year, making Australia the 7th largest source of tourists to Vietnam.
At the event, representatives from travel agencies, service providers, and tourist destinations in Australia and Vietnam met to exchange information and share the latest updates on tourism products and services from both countries (B2B). The aim was to explore opportunities for cooperation, support sustainable tourism development, and enhance two-way tourism between Australia and Vietnam.
On this occasion, the Australian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City also organized a Q&A session for Vietnamese travel businesses regarding Australian visa regulations and procedures.
