Choose students who are passionate and determined.

Ms. Pham Thi Dieu Anh, CEO of AIM Academy and a member of the judging panel for the YouBranding personal branding competition organized by the University of Economics and Finance Ho Chi Minh City, said she recently selected several contestants for interviews and discussions about potential employee positions.

"Right from the first round of the competition, we saw that the students were very dynamic, demonstrating their skills and knowledge in personal branding, talent, creativity, and presentation abilities through activities such as planning and designing communication materials with a unique style," Ms. Dieu Anh said.

In addition, contestants also self-publish content, build their image, and create professional networks on social media channels. According to Ms. Dieu Anh, the further students progress in the competition, the more outstanding their abilities are demonstrated. Among them, some contestants have made a strong impression on this judge.

"I decided to meet with some of the contestants to discuss things. Among them, I'm inviting one contestant to work for the design department at my company. This person has good design skills, passion, and determination to participate in the competition to overcome their limitations. These are qualities that I highly value," Ms. Dieu Anh shared.

According to Ms. Dieu Anh, academic competitions at universities have provided a quality pool of candidates for businesses. "Businesses have the time to work with candidates through multiple rounds of testing, thus understanding their strengths and weaknesses, and selecting suitable candidates. In contrast, if recruiting from other sources, businesses only have 15-30 minutes for interviews, which is insufficient to fully understand the candidates," Ms. Dieu Anh observed.

Taekwondo athletes also compete in "building their personal brand."

Reportedly, the 3rd edition of the YouBranding 2023 competition has expanded in scale and attracted the participation of nearly 800 high school students and over 200 university students from many universities in Ho Chi Minh City such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance, Van Lang University, Hoa Sen University, Hong Bang International University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology,FPT Polytechnic College, etc.

Notably, the competition featured young national taekwondo poomsae athlete Nguyen Thanh Hien Linh and Ho Chi Minh City taekwondo poomsae athlete Chau Ngoc Tuyet Sang. Both Linh and Sang are first-year students in the Marketing department at the University of Economics and Finance Ho Chi Minh City.

Dr. Phan Bao Giang, Head of the Marketing Department at the University of Economics and Finance Ho Chi Minh City, and Deputy Head of the competition organizing committee, said: "This year's competition structure is linked to practical trends, helping contestants build their brands to become KOLs and KOCs, a personal branding trend suitable for young people today. In particular, the "Flex The Brands" round, where brands like Thanh Nien Newspaper and other businesses will appear in the products of the Top 35 contestants, will select the 7 most outstanding individuals to advance to the final round with the theme "My USP, It's Me," which will take place on the afternoon of January 5, 2024."

According to Dr. Giang, the competition also attracted the attention of a large number of students, with over 100,000 visits to the official fanpage, and many contestants' videos achieved a huge amount of interaction. "This shows the popularity of the competition and the importance of building a personal brand in today's era, especially for young people," Dr. Giang commented.
