(NLĐO) - Upon being brought to the police station, Duong Huu Tri, the suspect who stabbed a riot police officer, remained "cold-blooded," defiant, and uncooperative.

On the evening of March 3rd, the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Police officially announced the death of Corporal Nguyen Ngoc Minh Nhat (born in 2001, a soldier of the Mobile Police Unit, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Police) while on duty apprehending a suspect resisting arrest.

It is known that Corporal Nguyen Ngoc Minh Nhat joined the police force in February 2024 and is currently a soldier in the Mobile Police Unit of the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Police, stationed in Vung Tau City.

Corporal Nhật lives with his mother, who is a trader. The family does not own a house and is currently living with his maternal grandmother. Minh Nhật has an older brother who is also a police officer in the Nguyễn An Ninh Ward Police Station, Vũng Tàu City.

According to the police in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, at approximately 7:35 AM on the same day, a task force from Ward 7, Vung Tau City, went to Duong Huu Tri's house (also known as Ty Heo, born in 1987) to invite him to the police station for a drug test.

However, Tri refused to comply, chased after and slashed a security officer from Ward 7 with a knife, tearing his shirt, then returned to set fire to the team's motorbike before going inside his house.

Upon receiving the report, the Criminal Investigation Team in charge of the Vung Tau City area assigned forces to coordinate with the Office of the Criminal Investigation Agency, the Drug Crime Investigation Department, the Mobile Police Department, and the Police of Ward 7 to persuade Tri, but he refused to comply, continued to barricade himself in his house, cursing and threatening to use weapons to attack the police force.

Tri stood on the upper floor and threw boiling water at the police force, causing burns to a police officer from Ward 7.

Given the situation, the task force, including Corporal Nguyen Ngoc Minh Nhat, moved in to subdue the suspect. During the process of approaching and subduing him, Corporal Nhat was stabbed once in the right side of his chest by Tri.

The task force took Corporal Nhat to Vung Tau hospital for emergency treatment, but he passed away at approximately 1:30 PM.

At the same time, the Criminal Police Department apprehended the suspect at the scene and brought him to the station for questioning.

One officer sustained minor injuries while law enforcement officers were subduing the suspect.

Reportedly, even after being arrested and taken to the police station, Tri continued to display a "cold-blooded," defiant, and uncooperative attitude.

The Criminal Police Department is coordinating with the Provincial People's Procuracy, the Forensic Technical Department, and the Provincial Forensic Center to conduct scene investigation, autopsy, and continue the investigation.
