According to information from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Cong Phuong suffered a fat tissue injury under the sole of his foot. Although the injury was not too serious, the urgent time frame prevented this striker from reaching his best physical condition to compete. It is expected that Cong Phuong will need about two weeks to fully recover and will return to the club to continue treatment today.
This is a very regrettable thing for Cong Phuong personally, as he has been making constant efforts to return to the national team after nearly two years of absence. Head coach Kim Sang Sik also encouraged his student, and agreed to let Cong Phuong return to the club to ensure the best treatment process.

This is really bad news for the Vietnamese team before the trip to Malaysia. Before this training session, Mr. Kim Sang Sik could not call up Van Toan, Vi Hao and Xuan Son due to injuries. This is also the time when both Tien Linh and Tuan Hai are not in good form. Cong Phuong is considered an option that can bring efficiency to the attack. However, it is regrettable that he cannot join the Vietnamese team to attend the away match in Malaysia in the second match of Group F - Final Qualifiers of the 2027 Asian Cup.
Coach Kim Sang Sik has decided to call up striker Nguyen Quoc Viet to the national team. Quoc Viet has the advantage of being a face that Mr. Kim Sang Sik once called up to the national team, and is also a key factor of U22 Vietnam, currently training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center.
This striker, born in 2003, is known as the “King of Youth Tournaments” thanks to his impressive achievements in national youth tournaments, including winning the title of Top Scorer at the National U17, U19 and U21 tournaments. He played for the youth teams of Hoang Anh Gia Lai and Nutifood JMG, before being promoted to the first team of Hoang Anh Gia Lai to compete in V.League 1. At the beginning of the 2024 season, Quoc Viet moved to play for Phu Dong Ninh Binh Club in V.League 2, in order to seek more playing opportunities and gain more playing experience.
In the international arena, Quoc Viet has been a member of the U19, U20 and U23 Vietnam teams, participating in many important tournaments such as the Southeast Asian U23 Championship, SEA Games and the Asian U20 Finals. He is highly regarded for his technique, finishing ability and tactical thinking, promising to be a quality addition to the Vietnamese team's attack in the near future. With this addition, the Vietnamese team's attack will have 4 players registered in the striker position: Tien Linh, Tuan Hai, Thanh Binh and Quoc Viet.
With these strikers, Mr. Kim Sang Sik also needs to consider other options if the Vietnam team is in a deadlock. In the Vietnam team's lineup, Bui Hoang Viet Anh ( Hanoi Police) cannot participate due to injury. This central defender used to be an attacking solution when playing for Hanoi Police. Therefore, Mr. Kim Sang Sik also lost a backup option.
VFF leaders in a recent meeting with the Vietnamese team assessed that the upcoming match will be very difficult as the opponent Malaysia will play at home and has a strong force thanks to quality naturalized players. Therefore, Mr. Kim Sang Sik must have careful preparation and calculation before this important confrontation.
