Khmer ethnic people in Vinh Long benefit from national target programs

Over the past many years, with the attention of the Party and State, along with the synchronous participation of the authorities and localities, the Khmer people in Vinh Long province have had many improvements, especially benefiting from the National Target Programs in many fields from housing, land, rural transportation... to education, health care, and culture.

Thanks to the effective implementation of the Party and State's policies, most localities with a large Khmer population in Vinh Long province have made remarkable progress. Rural infrastructure has been invested synchronously, and people's lives have been increasingly improved. People have raised their awareness of voluntarily complying with the law and participating in building their homeland to become more and more prosperous.

From support policy

Many policies and strategies have been put into practice, bringing about clear changes in the lives of the Khmer ethnic minority people in Vinh Long. Specifically: The National Target Program for Socio -Economic Development of Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period; Program 135, Resolution 120 of the Government on sustainable development of the Mekong Delta; Policies to support residential land, production land, domestic water, housing, preferential loans, vocational training, and recruitment for Khmer children...

Up to now, the lives of Khmer people in Vinh Long province have had many clear changes. The rate of poor Khmer households has decreased to 1.6%, near-poor households has decreased to 3.2%. Compared to 2021, poor households have decreased by 5.45% and near-poor households have decreased by 7.09%.

Mr. Thach Prem, Ca Sang hamlet, Ham Giang commune, Vinh Long province, excitedly said: “Our people have always received support from the commune and hamlet, from giving us land to building houses and creating jobs for us to earn more income. Many households have received low-interest loans from the state to do business, many families have become well-off and escaped poverty.”

Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ham Giang Commune, Nguyen Quoc Thanh, said: "In 2025, support programs helped about 113 households in the commune. Of which, 3 households benefited from land support policies, 56 households benefited from housing policies, 26 households had access to loans to develop production, and 28 households received support for clean water. The support policies and the efforts of the people have helped the Khmer ethnic people in the commune improve their lives."

Many Khmer people in Vinh Long are well off thanks to livelihood support policies.

According to the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Vinh Long province, in recent times, the province has implemented many policies of the Central and local governments to care for the material and spiritual lives of ethnic and religious people. In 2025, the province will implement 9/10 projects and 10/14 sub-projects under the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas with a total budget of more than 284 billion VND. Up to now, the whole province has disbursed more than 98.4 billion VND, supported residential land for many households, housing for 92 households, completed the construction of 71 new works, renovated and upgraded 2 ethnic boarding schools...

Unite to build the homeland

Vinh Long has more than 353,000 Khmer people living, accounting for 10.4% of the province's population. The implementation of ethnic policies and emulation movements associated with socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas has achieved many positive results. The changes in phum, soc, and areas with a large Khmer population are vivid proof of the strength of solidarity, a driving force for the community to join hands in building a rich and beautiful homeland.

According to the Steering Committee for Ethnic and Religious Affairs of Vinh Long Province, the province has more than 373,640 ethnic minorities, accounting for 11.03%; of which Khmer people account for 10.42%. The province has 12 religious organizations, more than 1,300 places of worship and more than 1.1 million followers of various religions. The preservation and promotion of cultural identity and ethical values ​​of religions have always been of concern.

Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Vinh Long province Thach Thi Thu Ha said: “Recognizing the importance of ethnic and religious work, in recent times, the Party Committees and authorities at all levels of Vinh Long province have synchronously deployed many propaganda and mobilization solutions to help Khmer people clearly understand and well implement the Party's policies and the State's laws.

Along with taking care of material and spiritual life, local Party committees and authorities pay special attention to creating the most favorable conditions for Khmer people to freely believe and practice religion in accordance with the law. Thanks to that, Khmer people in Vinh Long province have an increasingly stable and improved life.

In the life of the Khmer people, the pagoda is not only a place for religious activities but also a cultural and educational center, a place to convey the Party and State's policies to Buddhists. The pagoda always coordinates with local authorities to propagate the law to Buddhists. Monks and prestigious people in the Khmer ethnic minority area have become the core nucleus in propaganda and mobilization work, contributing to strengthening trust and creating consensus in society.

The pagoda is not only a place for religious activities but also a cultural and educational center of the Khmer people.

Venerable Thach Thua, Abbot of Dai Truong Pagoda (Tieu Can Commune, Vinh Long Province) shared: “The lives of Khmer Buddhists are getting better and better, most of them are enthusiastic about doing business. They go to the pagoda 4 days a month. Besides propagating about the Dharma, the pagoda has integrated propaganda about good living, about ethnic and religious policies, security laws, economics and society to the people. From there, people can understand the policies of the Party and the State.”

The material and spiritual life of the Khmer people has achieved many good results, which is a vivid proof of the implementation of the correct policies of the Party and the State. The consensus between the government and the people, together with the spirit of solidarity and living a good life and a good religion, has become an important endogenous strength for the localities of the Khmer people to develop quickly and sustainably.
