TPO - Overwhelmed with emotion, I entered the kitchen where thousands of meals were being prepared during the historic floods in the outskirts of Hanoi . More than a dozen people, from preparing ingredients to cooking and portioning, created a warm atmosphere filled with positive energy and love for their fellow countrymen.
In recent days, in Dong Dau and Dun villages (Tot Dong commune, Chuong My district, Hanoi), there has been a kitchen area always bustling with the laughter and chatter of the women and mothers. |
This is a charitable kitchen that has served thousands of meals over the past few days to people in the flooded areas of Chuong My district (Hanoi). It is known that all the ingredients and cooking costs were donated by individuals and benefactors supporting the flood-affected areas. |
The menu was revealed to reporters by the chef. |
The communal kitchen was an initiative of Nguyen Thi Duong and her sister, Nguyen Thi Thoa, after seeing many neighboring families in the village deeply submerged under floodwaters, without electricity or running water for cooking. |
Moreover, the two sisters, Duong and Thoa, also managed to persuade Bui Thi Dung and many others to join in cooking for the people in the flooded areas. |
This charitable kitchen not only provides two meals a day for villages such as Dong Dau Village, Dun Village, etc., but also supplies hundreds of meals to the temple in Thuan Luong commune to distribute to people in the area flooded by typhoon No. 3. |
Rice and soup are packaged in boxes and sealed in plastic like in restaurants before being delivered to households. |
A tray of delicious food with a diverse menu, cooked with love for fellow countrymen during difficult times, becomes all the more precious. |
During peak days, the kitchen provides between 900 and 1,000 meals for the local population. |
Currently, many areas in Chuong My district (Hanoi) are still deeply flooded. Electricity and water are currently unavailable. |
The flooding is expected to last for about another week. |
