People's Artist Bach Tuyet's passion project at the age of 80

On December 18th, People's Artist Bach Tuyet announced her new project, "Cai Luong Academy" - a reality TV program combining training, competition, and performance. The program is structured as an academy with People's Artist and Doctor of Arts Bach Tuyet as its director.

Joining her were two other artists: Chau Thanh and Thanh Hang, along with the "music teacher" - musician and People's Artist Thanh Hai, who accompanied the contestants throughout the program.

People's Artist Bach Tuyet has served as a judge in talent selection competitions for young people and in professional Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) festivals and performances organized by the Department of Performing Arts of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam Association of Stage Artists for many decades, so she has great prestige and experience to carry out this project.

She shared that the program will equip participants with fundamental knowledge of Cai Luong singing and acting; creating a space from rehearsal to performance for students to gradually become professional Cai Luong artists.

At the same time, the program also aims to train them to be cultural activists, contributing to the preservation and development of the country's cultural and artistic heritage.

"Setting clear criteria, this program aims to find, train, and mentor students, tailoring roles and voices to suit each student's strengths. In addition to the permanent faculty and artists, the academy will bring together many master artists as guest lecturers to impart knowledge and skills to students through each episode and challenge."

The program promises to be a meeting point for audiences who love Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) and want to explore different cultural regions with their tangible and intangible heritage – oral traditions. The stories and people told in each episode on Today TV and People's Artist Bach Tuyet's YouTube channel will contribute to enriching and discovering the cultural layers of Vietnam, including the art of Cai Luong theater.

"The Cai Luong Academy" will have 12 episodes, with a competition format of gradual elimination. The producers revealed that the program will have a very different feel compared to previous versions of Cai Luong art.

The key criterion is to target a large young audience. "Because they are the crucial element in continuing to preserve and promote the value of Cai Luong art," emphasized People's Artist Bach Tuyet.

Artist Thanh Hang said she was excited to accept the invitation to participate in this program because she knew the contestants, aged 16-40, possessed all the necessary elements of operatic art. Knowing a foreign language was also an advantage for the contestants.

Artist Thanh Hang said that throughout her career, she has been fortunate to work with many senior figures. Since winning the Tran Huu Trang Gold Medal in 1991, she has had many opportunities to work and learn from People's Artist Bach Tuyet. "She gave me many lessons, especially in creative thinking and beautifying Cai Luong art. Therefore, when I received the invitation to participate in the program, I immediately agreed," artist Thanh Hang confided.

Artist Chau Thanh, in particular, has always hoped for the opportunity to work with People's Artist Bach Tuyet, not only because she could learn from her senior colleague about professional skills but also about ethical thinking.

"Throughout my singing career, I've always been grateful to the senior artists who supported me from the very beginning. Currently, being able to act as a bridge to connect with and help the younger generation is a great joy. In this program, I will inspire and encourage young people to be more confident and to keep their passion alive," artist Chau Thanh shared.
