Domestic pepper prices updated on the afternoon of May 5, 2025

According to statistics, in April 2025, domestic pepper prices decreased by about 4,000 - 5,000 VND/kg due to the impact of US tariff policies. However, the current price is still 57 - 59% higher (56,500 - 58,000 VND/kg) than the same period last year.

Regarding world pepper prices, the pepper market fluctuated strongly last week. Of which, Indonesian pepper prices increased sharply by 3.09%; while Brazilian black pepper and Vietnamese pepper exports decreased by more than 1%. Meanwhile, Malaysian pepper prices continued to remain unchanged compared to last week.

Experts say that in the short term, pepper prices are expected to remain high due to limited supply and stable demand. However, prices may be under downward pressure if there is a recovery in supply from other producing countries or changes in consumption demand.

Currently, the global pepper supply is facing many challenges. According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), although pepper prices have increased compared to last year, replanting activities in key provinces are still slow. The reason is that there is not much new land left, while farmers are shifting to growing crops that are more economically efficient such as durian and coffee.

In Vietnam, the world’s leading pepper exporter, the 2025 harvest has largely ended. Pepper output is forecast to decline, further tightening domestic supply.

In terms of consumption, the Asia-Pacific region continues to dominate production and exports, with key countries including India, Vietnam and Indonesia. Meanwhile, Europe and North America remain the largest import markets.
