Place of “healing”
Every year, Phu Quy attracts tens of thousands of tourists, especially young people, who are looking for a place to escape the pressure of the city and “recharge” their spirits. Ms. Nguyen Ngoc An (Phu Thuy ward) is one of them. After a short vacation with friends in Phu Quy, An shared: “No matter how many times I come here, this place still makes me miss it. The pace of life in Phu Quy is slow, the people are friendly and lovely. It feels like I am returning home.”
Stressful office work makes An always crave to escape somewhere to restore energy. And every time like that, Phu Quy is always the first choice. Without needing sophisticated tourism services, the wild, quiet nature and the sincerity of the people here have created a very unique attraction.
Similarly, Nguyen Hoang Son, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, also decided to spend a whole week in Phu Quy. “This place is not too noisy, not too crowded. Everything is very natural and authentic. I like to wander on the roads, find strange angles to take photos or participate in activities such as cycling, mountain climbing, and diving to see coral,” Son shared. According to Son, after the trip, he felt “lighter than ever”, a true healing trip.

… “Healing” the pearl island
Phu Quy is not only a place to recharge, but also a place for each person to contribute to returning beautiful things to nature. Recently, the image of young people, tourists, tour guides and locals collecting waste together at Phu Quy beaches has left many deep impressions.
Ta Thi Thuy (born in 2000, in Thai Nguyen ) is the initiator of this meaningful activity. Initially, Thuy only planned to travel for a few days, but when she arrived in Phu Quy and saw the amount of waste along the coast, this petite girl decided to take action. "I posted a call on social media, and the next day, many people joined. At first, I thought it was just a few people, but I didn't expect to receive a response from students, tourists, and locals," Thuy said. Places such as Lang Co Embankment, Doc Phuot, Bai Nho, Bai Phu... were gradually cleaned up thanks to this campaign. Although people offered to support them financially, Thuy's group only accepted ice and filtered water, to avoid using more plastic bottles.
Many other tourists, such as Mr. Cao Xuan Manh (Ho Chi Minh City), also volunteered to participate: "I have been to many places but I find activities like this very meaningful. This is not just about picking up trash, but also about spreading the spirit of responsibility for the environment."
The People's Committee of Phu Quy Special Zone also launched an Anti-Plastic Waste movement, tourists do not bring plastic waste to the island. "Phu Quy is so beautiful and amazing that it has urged us to set foot to admire and explore the beautiful landscapes of this land that nature has bestowed. In order to contribute our small part to the general environmental protection program of the Special Zone, we fully support and are determined to carry out the program "not bringing plastic waste to the Special Zone" - said Mr. Binh, a tourist visiting the island.

Affirming the youth of the Special Zone
Phu Quy is not only a destination but also a place where young local people build a modern, friendly and professional tourism image. A group of young people who are local tour guides from Hon Tranh Tour group recently took a group of more than 20 people from Ho Chi Minh City to visit Bai Can (also known as Ran Can or Long Be area), a coral reef with an area of about 1 km2 , located in the East of Phu Quy Special Zone. At the destination, the local tour guides were very enthusiastic in instructing tourists on how to paddle Sup, how to dive to see coral and support tourists with beautiful films and photos... Their enthusiasm made tourists very happy and satisfied. Nguyen Duy Nien, one of the group members, said: Usually, my group has about 4-5 members serving tourists, but on weekends or holidays when there are many tourists, there will be more members to support. “Each of us has a job, some present destinations, some instruct tourists on how to paddle SUP, how to dive to see coral. In addition, we also learn and invest in photography and filming to serve tourists…”, Nien shared.
Also one of the young people with a modern and dynamic approach to tourism, Dong Duy Khang has built cheap homestays for tourists to experience. Through the media, Dong Duy Khang's fanpage "Homestay Phu Quy" has a lot of followers and Khang has also regularly updated useful information such as new check-in points, boat schedules to the island, or weather forecasts on the island. In addition, Khang, like many young people on the island, can do a very good job as a tour guide if tourists need it and can take them to all the "check-in" places that cannot be missed such as Trieu Duong Bay, Bai Nho - Ganh Hang, Linh Son Pagoda, the lighthouse, the wind power area, or Doc Phuot - the slope on the beautiful road.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thom - Secretary of the Phu Quy Special Zone Youth Union said: Tourism development opens up new opportunities, according to many local young people who have started to change their professions and new fields. Most of them are young men who stick to the sea or new graduates who also want to find new job opportunities. "You have health, creativity, solidarity and enthusiasm. But there are still some of you who are quite confused when entering the tourism industry because you have never received formal, professional training in the tourism field. Therefore, the Special Zone Youth Union has also coordinated with agencies, departments and branches to organize training courses and activities for you to study, improve your qualifications, complete degrees as well as complete legal bases to do business legally, qualified to serve tourists well" - Ms. Thom shared.
According to Ms. Thom, many young people have grasped the trend and have been guided by the Youth Union to establish companies specializing in tourism. In particular, they are very interested in environmental protection, coral reef protection and local social security...
Phu Quy is not a very noisy place, nor is it an easy-to-access land. But perhaps that is why this place is more loved. People come to find themselves, to do something for the place that once “healed” them. In Phu Quy Special Zone, each visitor’s footprint is not only a memory, but also a commitment to nature and the community: That tourism is not only for enjoyment but also for contributing, preserving and spreading beautiful things.
