Storm No. 12 caused heavy rain and high tides in coastal areas of Hue City, causing serious landslides on many coastal roads.

High tides caused serious landslides on the Hai Binh coastal road (Phu Loc commune), with a long stretch of road at risk of being swept out to sea.

High tides eroded deep into the foundation of the Hai Binh coastal road, damaging the rock gabion system and embankment protecting traffic works near Tu Hien estuary.

The severely damaged section of road is about 30 meters long, with a frog-like jaw that goes more than 1 meter deep into the road. This is the location where serious landslides occurred along a length of nearly 250 meters during the 2024 storm season on the Hai Binh coastal road (Phu Loc commune).

Notably, this is the only road connecting to a residential area with about 70 households living there. The destruction of the road by the high tide has disrupted the lives of the people, and they are at risk of being isolated.

To ensure people's safety, authorities have put up warning signs, prohibiting people from passing through the landslide site.

In addition, local authorities are also urgently temporarily reinforcing and researching measures to thoroughly fix the problem, soon stabilizing people's lives.

At Thuan An beach (Thuan An ward), high tides also caused serious erosion, seawater flooded into many shops and coastal residential areas.

This is also the coastal area that was severely damaged by the recent storm No. 10 (bualoi). Although the local government later built a soft embankment to reinforce it, the high tide caused by storm No. 12 continued to wash away the sand banks into the sea.

Faced with that situation, the Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Hue City were present at Thuan An beach to gather information and direct the work to overcome the incident.

According to statistics from the Department of Irrigation and Climate Change of Hue City, due to the consecutive impacts of natural disasters in August and September and storm No. 12, the Hoa Duan coast (Thuan An ward) has suffered severe erosion with a length of 1km. The coastal section through Vinh Loc commune has been eroded inland from 10 to 30m, affecting Provincial Road 21. All of these erosion and erosion points pose a potential risk of opening new sea gates.
| It is forecasted that today, Hue city will continue to have heavy rain, generally from 200 - 300mm, in some places over 500mm. The heavy rain in Hue city is forecast to continue until the end of October 2025. Irrigation and hydroelectric reservoirs in Hue city are currently ensuring safety. From September 28 to now, the Hue City Civil Defense Command has issued 5 orders to operate reservoirs in the Huong River basin to gradually lower the water level of the reservoirs, creating flood prevention capacity. The water level at large reservoirs such as Binh Dien, Huong Dien and Ta Trach is capable of cutting the flood peak of the rain from 400 - 500mm. | |
