Elon Musk believes that OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman have put commercial interests above the public interest.
Musk said: he was lured and deceived by Altman and current OpenAI President Greg Brockman to co-create the company with the promise "it would go in a safer and more open direction than the technology giants chasing profits". After participating in the investment, Musk felt betrayed because Altman, along with other co-founders and Microsoft, established a network of subsidiaries of OpenAI and operated for profit.
Musk's lawsuit asks a federal court in California to rule that OpenAI's license to Microsoft to use its AI models is invalid. He argues that OpenAI's large language models should be outside the scope of the partnership with Microsoft.
Previously, at the end of February, Musk also submitted a similar lawsuit but later withdrew it.
The lawsuit also accuses Microsoft of participating in this by seeking to profit, enticing OpenAI to use and then become dependent on its cloud computing system.
Sam Altman, OpenAI and Microsoft have yet to comment on the lawsuit.
