Nguyen Do Kim Long (born in 2009), a student at Nguyen Huu Tho High School, is one of the faces that teachers and local authorities pay great attention to because of his extremely difficult family circumstances. His father - Mr. Nguyen Tich Tho - used to be the main breadwinner of the family, but since 2017, he has been suffering from serious illnesses such as colon cancer, neurological diseases, nerve roots... causing his health to seriously decline. His mother - Mrs. Do Thi Hong Cuc - after a stroke in 2021, is no longer healthy enough to work stably. No longer able to work, both husband and wife have had to rely on selling lottery tickets to make a living, with an income of only about 4.5 million VND/month. Since having to sell the old house in Xom Chieu ward to cover medical expenses, Long's family has lived in a cramped rented room of less than 8 square meters .

In a situation that would have made many young people give up, Long chose to persevere in pursuing his studies. During his four years of junior high school, he was an excellent student. In high school, Long continued to strive to pass his wish to enter Nguyen Huu Tho High School. In addition to studying regularly, Long also studied foreign languages, passionately practiced chess, and was trusted by the school to participate in amateur tournaments. Long's will to study is not only a provision for his own future, but also a great source of encouragement to help his family overcome difficult days.

Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Dang My Ly - Vice President of EVNHCMC Trade Union shared that the awarding of the "Lighting up the Faith" scholarship not only provides material support but also spreads faith and inspiration to students with difficult circumstances like Nguyen Do Kim Long to have more motivation to overcome their learning journey. EVNHCMC will always care and accompany them - the future green buds of the city."

The scholarship awarded this time has practical meaning, helping Kim Long have more conditions to pay for tuition, buy school supplies and continue to pursue his dream of going to university. Moved when receiving the scholarship, Kim Long expressed: "I am very grateful for the attention of the uncles and aunts in the electricity industry. The scholarship not only helps me pay for my studies but also gives me more confidence to persevere with my dream."

The reality TV show “Lighting up the Faith” has been accompanied by EVNHCMC for many years and has awarded hundreds of scholarships to studious students with especially difficult circumstances in Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces and cities. Not only providing financial support, the program also recognizes the students’ efforts to rise up, spreading beautiful stories about life force and the spirit of overcoming difficulties.
