On October 19th, the Organizing Committee of the 33rd SEA Games held the draw to divide the teams into groups for the men's and women's futsal events at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand.

In the men's futsal competition, since only five teams participated – Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Myanmar – the organizers decided to hold a round-robin tournament to determine the final rankings.

At the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship, the Vietnamese Futsal team received a big reward.
Historically, the Vietnamese men's futsal team has never won a gold medal at the SEA Games. This year, coach Diego Giustozzi and his team aim to improve on their achievement after winning a bronze medal at the 32nd SEA Games.
To achieve their goal, the Vietnamese men's futsal team needs to be well-prepared, as host nation Thailand and Indonesia are considered strong contenders.
The men's futsal tournament will take place from December 13th to 19th at either the Nonthaburi Arena or the Rajamangala University of Technology Arena, Thanyaburi campus (Pathum Thani).

In women's futsal, the Vietnamese women's team is in Group B along with Myanmar and Indonesia, while Group A consists of Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
This is considered a balanced group, as both Myanmar and Indonesia are rapidly improving opponents who have posed significant challenges for Vietnam in recent SEA Games.
The women's futsal tournament will be held from December 12th to 18th at either the Nonthaburi Gymnasium or the Rajamangala University of Technology gymnasium, Thanyaburi campus.
The Vietnamese men's and women's futsal teams are also expected to begin training at the end of October, aiming for the best possible results at this year's SEA Games.
