The previous SEA Games record in the men's 100m race belonged to Indonesian legend Suryo Agung Wibowo, who achieved a time of 10.17 seconds at the 2009 SEA Games in Laos.
Puripol's time of 9.94 seconds also made him the first Thai runner in history to achieve a time under 10 seconds in the 100m race.
Notably, in the final round, Puripol continued his excellent form, finishing first with a time of 10.00 seconds, winning his second SEA Games gold medal in his career, following his victory at the 31st SEA Games in 2022 in Vietnam.
The silver medal went to athlete Muhammad Sori Lalu (Indonesia) with a time of 10.25 seconds, and the bronze medal went to Muhammad Rosli Danish Iftikha (Malaysia) with a time of 10.26 seconds.
The Asian record for the men's 100m race is still held by Su Bingtian of China with a time of 9.83 seconds, set in 2021. Legendary Usain Bolt remains the world champion with a time of 9.58 seconds from 2009, a record yet to be surpassed.
