* Dong Nai Livestock Association assessed that the reason for the sharp increase in pork prices is that in the first months of the year, pork prices were low, causing farmers to suffer heavy losses, so they had to reduce their herds or scale their farming, causing supply to tend to decrease.
In addition, since the first half of the year, the epidemic has been raging, affecting many small-scale livestock farmers.
The gradual improvement in pork purchasing power in the market is also the reason for the rapid increase in pork prices. The demand for processed pork for food products during the festive season is gradually improving.
Faced with rising pork prices, local agricultural sectors recommend that farmers continue to monitor the market and be cautious in increasing their herds at this time.
According to the General Statistics Office, livestock and poultry farming in the first 6 months of 2023 developed stably, and diseases were controlled.
However, farmers still need to closely monitor the market situation, authorities need to provide timely information, control the local livestock situation, and should not increase the herd massively, leading to oversupply and a sharp drop in selling prices, causing losses.
