According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), pepper prices are rising compared to previous years, benefiting farmers. However, this year many farmers have reaped significant profits from durian and coffee, leading to pepper hoarding and causing shortages even during the peak harvest season. Processors are forced to use existing stock to meet delivery deadlines for signed export orders.
The hoarding of pepper by many people in anticipation of price increases has led to a situation where pepper prices at the farm gate are sometimes higher than the raw material prices at export-oriented producers. This current situation will make business more difficult if farmers continue to restrict the sale of raw materials to the market.
Forecasts indicate that global demand for pepper will remain high, driving pepper prices to maintain their upward trend in the near future.

According to statistics, Vietnam currently has over 110,000 hectares of pepper plantations, with an average yield of 26 quintals/hectare, double the global average. The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has developed and approved a plan for the development of key industrial crops, which aims to maintain an area of approximately 80,000-100,000 hectares and a production volume of 200,000-300,000 tons by 2030.
The target set for 2030 is that approximately 40% of pepper growing areas in Vietnam will meet GAP standards, and 40-50% of the area will be granted planting area codes with product traceability.
