HAGL entered round 8 of V.League 2025/26 in an unprecedented difficult situation. After 6 matches, the mountain town team has only scored one goal, gone through three draws and has yet to taste victory. The reception of The Cong Viettel at Pleiku Stadium is therefore considered a big challenge for coach Le Quang Trai and his team.

However, in an afternoon that seemed full of pressure, HAGL created the biggest surprise since the beginning of the tournament. The home team won 2-0 thanks to goals from Jairo Filho in the 24th minute and Ryan Ha in the 60th minute. Both goals came in a game where HAGL was controlled by the opponent for most of the time, had to play defensive counter-attacks and take full advantage of rare opportunities.

The defense of the mountain town team had to work hard when facing the speedy and technical attack of The Cong Viettel. In the 80th minute, Lucao thought he would help the away team reduce the score after running down to receive a pass from Tuan Tai and then finishing neatly. However, the referee team determined that the Brazilian striker was in an offside position, causing the goal to be disallowed.

It was not until the 90+11 minute that the team in white had a goal to reduce the score thanks to Lucao's goal. The remaining time was not enough for The Cong Viettel to have a second goal, thereby leaving the mountain town empty-handed.

The 2-1 victory helped HAGL get the first 3 points of this year's season, temporarily escaping the bottom position after 8 rounds. Currently, HAGL is exactly 1 point ahead of Da Nang .

For The Cong Viettel, this is the team’s first loss of the season this year. This defeat puts the army team at risk of losing second place in the table when the remaining matches of round 8 end on October 27.
