BBK - Nguyen Thien An and Nguyen Minh Vuong were born into a family with no tradition of sports . However, their talent and burning passion for martial arts brought this duo to Taekwondo.

Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy Van, the mother of the two children, said: “When they were young, they were often sick and had poor health, so when they were over 5 years old, my husband and I sent them to learn Taekwondo. At first, we thought that letting our children learn martial arts was first and foremost to improve their health.”
Faced with the beautiful moves of Taekwondo, the two brothers became more and more passionate about it. In the early days of learning this martial art, they also encountered many difficulties. Thien An recalled: “On the first day of practice, there were some afternoons with heavy rain, I thought about dropping out of school, but then the two brothers put on raincoats to go to the gym so as not to miss any practice sessions. Every time we went to the gym, we met our friends, the teacher introduced us to Taekwondo, and watched our seniors perform the moves, the matches… From then on, Minh Vuong and I became even more passionate about this martial art.”

At the Center, Thien An and Minh Vuong have shown their prominence, thanks to their serious training spirit and outstanding talent. Currently, only 11 years old, both are 1m60 tall with long strides and ankles and feet suitable for Taekwondo.
Coach Mai Dinh Chung, who has been following the two brothers since they first started training, said: “Although the training time has not been long, both Thien An and Minh Vuong have made rapid progress. The exercises are of high difficulty, the coach only needs to demonstrate the movements once or twice for the two brothers to perform correctly. During the competition, the two brothers also follow the tactics that the coaching staff set out before the match. On the other hand, before competing with an opponent, the two brothers also spend time studying their playing style to find ways to counter them. If they are properly invested, their future will go far.”

Participating in 4 tournaments, but perhaps the most memorable memory for the two brothers was at the National Youth Taekwondo Championship - CJ 2023 held in Hanoi in early July. At the tournament, both Minh Vuong and Thien An competed in the individual combat event. With their calmness, courage and technical fighting style, both convincingly won Gold medals in the 36kg and 39kg weight categories (under 12 years old). These are 2 Gold medals after 15 years of waiting for Bac Kan Province Taekwondo at this tournament, since winning the Gold medal in 2008.
“Competing in the National Youth Taekwondo Championship with many talented athletes, we were also worried at first. But with the encouragement and enthusiastic guidance of the teacher and the seniors in the group, Thien An and I quickly regained our composure and brought out our strong moves. Both Thien An and I won the Gold medal, I felt very happy and joyful.” – Minh Vuong recalled.

However, to achieve victory in the tournaments, both of them tried their best. Minh Vuong confided: “Every time I practice or fight, I feel pain and soreness all over my body. However, the two of us always encourage each other to try our best. If on the first day in the ring, I was often nervous and uncomfortable, now, when facing my opponent, I am calmer, focus on the match and try to bring out my full potential. After each tournament, I gain more new experiences and feel more mature.”
Although the two brothers have had few opportunities to compete in tournaments, the medals they have won have proven their passion for martial arts. When asked about the person who inspired them in Taekwondo, both brothers said: “Taekwondo fighter Chau Tuyet Van is the idol of both brothers. Chau Tuyet Van has a saying that both Thien An and Minh Vuong like and remember clearly: No success comes naturally. With enough determination, miracles will be created.
