Argentinian player Camilo Ugo Carabelli was the 5th seed in the ATP 250 tournament. Chilean player Cristian Garin reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2022. Their match was quite exciting and ended with a 2-0 victory (6-4, 6-4) for Carabelli.
However, after Carabelli won the deciding point, tension erupted between them. According to British press reports, the two players exchanged heated words on their way back to their seats.
Carabelli allegedly called Garin "bobo," which means "stupid" or "idiot" in Spanish. Garin angrily retorted in Spanish, "Why did you call me an idiot? Why did you call me an idiot? What's wrong with you?"
The Chilean player also asked the umpire to intervene. But the umpire didn't understand what they were saying either. He asked both of them to speak in English, but they didn't understand what the umpire was saying either.
The argument then continued, with Carabelli declaring that "nobody likes" Garin before wishing him a safe journey home. Of course, Garin wasn't about to back down, retorting, "I'll meet you outside to see if you're brave enough."
